what do i do should i start in second and rev it about 4-5?

These cars actually launch best in first with a low rpm drop, lest you wheelhop yourself to a poor start; especially sans mounts.

I was cracking my best 60 foot times with lower pressure up front (may not be feesable on the street at 10-14 lbs, but try a little less than the 36 lbs that is good for daily driving...maybe 28 lbs...a little sidewall flex goes a long way towards hooking up) and a 1500 or so rpm drop. Feather the clutch and slip it just enough so you have the tires kind of skittering while you accelerate through first - you will know when you have it. That "skittering" is the tires clawing for traction, which kind of causes mini launches all the way through the gear if you follow what i mean...each little chirp is the car surging faster.

That will get you down below the 2 second mark to 60 feet if you do it right.

Good luck...now go use it and whack some mustangs. I used to love dropping svt's at the line...they were always like [sm=insomnia.gif]and[sm=yikesomg.gif].

Default RE: need help getting a good launch - launch-101

Let's turn this into a launch in a srt-4 class, level 101

Note:

I see that you have wider 215's. Now, most people believe that wider is better and means more grip. This is not necessarily the case. Think of it like this: Look at the footprint of the tire when you have it sitting on flat ground. A narrow footprint will have a narrower but longer footprint. Now this is not ideal for turning, but, the contact patch has more in contact with the ground where you need it, in front and back of the center of the tire's contact area(more forward grip). A wider tire will have more contact patch to the left and right of the center of contact which is good in turns but not necessarily in a straight line.

Now, this changes if you went from a 225 width to a 345, like 12 sizes, because you have added so much tire that there is just more on the ground period. But with a single size-up or two in width will net a small loss in forward porpulsion.

Now in your case you aren't actually losing anything in acceleration...all that said, because a 50 series aspect ratio tire means that the sidewall height is 50% of the width...and 215 being 10 mm wider than 205, you have gained 5 mm in sidewall. So you gain a little of that precious sidewall flex, cancelling out any loss you may have experienced by going a little wider. Another note...since you are 5mm taller, you lose a little torque, but gain a little on the top end.

Figured I'd take the thread a little further and dispell a myth.: wider isn't necessarily better.

thanks u have been a good help... but do i still shift at 6 in first?
wat is 1500 rpm drop wat that mean?
i like the wheels that the car comes wit but every one is telling me to put 15 or 16 in the front like 16x7.5 why is that any ways im still trying not to burn out to much at the start its hard its like learning how to drive a car all over again

thought I spelled it out quite clearly but ill simplify... a 1500 rpm drop means hold the revs at 1500 and engage the clutch. Slip it a little until the car is just moving and then get fully engaged. Shift to second and every toher gear just b4 redline.

They are saying to get 15 and 16 because of that aspect ratio I mentioned... the sidewall height. If you go to a 15 inch tire you will have a very tall sidewall to make the same diameter rolling surface. Say you are in a 215 50 17, then you would go to a 215 60 15 to maintain the same overall size...and you would gain an inch of sidewall...

The car would handle like slop. BUT You will be good in the 1/4. All that sidewall will give you a ton of grip and tire flex at launch.(and the wheels can weigh like next to nothing in a 15.)
