Default SRT Quality?????

To all you srt4 owners -

I'm looking for a commuter car that's REAL fun to drive and I have a
few questions about the srt.
How would you rank the quality of the vehicle?
Have you ever checked your gas mileage? (yes, I know it takes prem)
Do you think it will last 150-200k if driven sensibly?
How is comfort on long trips?
How loud is cabin noise?
Do you ever worry about it getting stolen or is it still too obscure?
How do you fare against the ricers, beemers, etc?
TIA for all your responses, These will help me decide on my
purchase.

Frank

First of all, the SRT-4 is the MOST fun you can have in a car for $20K, or even several K's more. The quality is as good as any American car I've seen recently and I average around 25 mpg, mostly in light city traffic. If you don't beat it to death racing from every stoplight to the next, I see no reason it wouldn't last at least 150K miles...regular and frequent oil changes with a syn type oil (Mopar recommends Mobile 1) will go a long way in making it last.

For me it's a comfortable fit in the seats, although if you are over 225 pounds it will probably be a tight fit. The exhaust make a nice rumble but even that can be drowned out by the stereo with the windows up. Most folks under 30 will recognize the car right away...old ladies in caddies won't know anything about it. But most cars aren't stolen by old ladies, so I guess it depends on where you live. The SRT is capable of holding its own against almost any car made. It all depends on how much you modify it (Stage 1, Stage 2, etc.) and how good a driver you are...hope this helps.

I would agree with dustylions, but there is one thing you should look at is of you drive long distances often the SRT-4 does not have cruise control. Don't know if that matters to you or not, just thought I'd bring it up.

One more thing, you don't have to pick on the ricers all the time either. You can go play with the big boys in their Mustangs and Camaros too.

Forgot about the lack of cruise control, but then when I had it on my last vehicle, I almost never used it due to the heavy traffic around San Antonio and Houston. The few times I DID use it, it became a safety hazard rather than a user-friendly item.

Since I got my SRT, I'm GLAD I sold my Mustang GT (and I would never drive ANY type of Chevy since my '81 Citation lemon).

Yup, I like the seats too. Some people don't though. When I got my SRT-4 on 9 Dec 03, I tipped the scales at a little over 240 (I'm 6'2") and the seats were a little "snug". Since then, I've been on the Atkins diet and am down to 219. The seats feela lot better (and the car probably goes a little faster as well!).

If your looking for a car with good gas mileage, you should consider a car without a turbo.. lol!

The gas mileage is good for 25mpg. But once u feel the boost, you wont mind the bad gas mileage.

Ive had my car almost for 10months now. Daily driven and very reliable. My first new car, with my 1st time installing all the bolt on mods

My lady complains about getting out of the car due to the sides of the seat sticking up. Hell the Viper seats.

The stock exhaust is louder then the other stock cars, but not to wear it becomes a problem for u. Ive got a 3" turboback and its loud. not too bad inside. but outside! wow! I got pulled over twice in 1 week. no citations luckily ;D

If ya wanna run with some noise, come to San Antonio. I live near a long (9 miles) straight strip of a road called the Austin Highway and it's a favorite of folks running race pipes and cut-outs. For some resaon the cops are content to sit at the local donut shop while all this goes on (must have some really nice looking gals there). I'm saving my pennies and using coupons at the grocery store to get a custom system myself....

No, they just really love those jelly donuts. If I could get away with it I would have kept my Roadrunner headers only, but it could be heard for miles. I loved taking it out on the road like that, it was great, I had to see what a difference it made.

I used to take my '69 GTX out on runs on I-15 around Great Falls, Montana. Back in the 80's it was great since Montana had no speed limits on the interstates during daylight hours. The sound of those dual glass-packs with the 440 Hemi was unreal!! Add to that all the beautiful mountains and rolling hills and trout streams....nirvana!!
