Default What to look for?

My wife has been on me to stop driving my Hemi Ram to work everyday, and to buy a "fuel friendly" car. Last Thursday, I was on my Kawasaki Ninja and had an srt4 pull next to me and acted like he wanted to race! I laughed a couple of times and finally gave in. We took off from about 30mph and he surprised the hell out of me!! (he didn't beat me for the record, just surprised me! lol) I went home and told my wife, "I think I am going to go look at Neons tomorrow!" She was very proud of me for making such a responsible decision.
I have 3 to look at this week so far; 2 private owners and 1 at a dealership. I need to know what to look for, what I should expect in terms of price, and the best place to get a "deal" on an srt4. (ex. would a chevy dealer not be as knowledgeable and therefore let one go cheaper?) What upgrades should I look for and what should I maybe stay away from? -it will primarily be a daily driver and reliability is a must, but I love speed also!
Any advice you guys/gals can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

while it might get better gas mileage than a hemi, it's still not good. the numbers say like 25mpg but that's a joke.

a lot of people will tell you to stay away from 03's because they think that 04/05s are so much better but they're not. they're all the same thing. you should be able to get a 03 cheaper too because of the elitist attitude.

other than that just make sure that there's no rust or any obvious probelms. these cars are pretty stout and don't usually have too many problems.

great cars, the price will vary greatly depending on condition / milage. and there is a likelyhood the one you raced may not have been stock. driving locally i only get maybe bout 20mpg, but ill still pull 30 driving all highway. your milage in the car depends on how you drive it

Default Thanks

The one that I raced appeared to be heavily modded, I could tell that. The wife may end up driving the car anyways, she had a couple Civic si's before I knocked her up and will love this car I think. Her brother works for VW and has a bad *** GTI (R32 or 34?). She would get more mpg than I will, that is for sure. Thanks alot for the suggestions, I will let you know what I find. And when I find it, you will be hearing lots of dumb questions from me! Thanks again
