RE: Spark Plugs

So you want colder plugs rather than hotter? Why is this? What gap should I use?

RE: Spark Plugs

hotter plugs can lead to an event called pre-ignition...

the easiest way to describe this event... your spark plug is primarily a heat removal device... if it gets too hot - it will ignite the air/fuel mixture before it's supposed to (aka, before your spark timing)... that being said, if you ignite too early you are actually fighting the travel of the piston (torque suffers)... as each pre-ignition event occurs it gets worse (more and more heat develops)... until you have engine failure...

the only trouble you have with a colder spark plug is fouling issues (typically at idle or cold starts)... big deal there... so... unless you know what you are doing - don't go hotter...

RE: Spark Plugs

On the box it has some numbers and letters BR8EIX, that mean that the heat range is 8? STOCK #: 5044 They also had BR9EIX for the same price, what do you think I should get?
What gap works best?

SRT_YA 07-08-2007 02:09 PM

RE: Spark Plugs

that is the heat range...

our cars are stock heat range 5.... so a 6 is all you need... NOT 8's!!!!!

I'm not even sure the BR series plug will fit the car properly... It doesn't sound like you have the right plugs!!!!

NGK's come pre-gapped... I run that... others will say to reduce the gap...

but I don't think you should be running a BR8EIX plug... who said that would work??

check out sparkplugs.com or NGKsparkplugs.com or such...

Iridium IX plug, LZTR5AIX-13 or thePlatinum PLZTR5A-13

I was looking at sparkplug.com SRT_YA which one of these two would you get, i really like the NGK plugs cause my dad always said that they were the best, and my dad is pretty good with cars.

RE: Spark Plugs

Both plugs should be fine... go with the Iridiums... (IX)...

NGK and Denso both make good plugs... I have to say NGK is the best... but they pay me to say that! ha-ha...
