higher is better. the manual recommends 91 because the poor guys in cali can only get 91, so dcx can't recommend 93 because of them. higher is better.

what are you calling bad gas mileage?

Yeah I am in California and we only have 91 :'(

Actually the ECU is calibrated for 91 octane. In other words the PCM will only advance the spark to a certain value and not beyond to avoid knock. If knock is detected the knock sensors will tell the PCM to pull timing. That shouldn't happen with 91 octane fuel with normal driving and using Mopar mods. Case in point: Stage 2 with toys is calibrated for 91 octane as well but if you push the HO button the PCM will now advance the timing for 100+ octane. The higher the octane the higher the timing you can use. The PCM will never learn any other octane use. It is permently calibrated to 91 or 100 in the HO mode.

in this case it is. the ecu is not calibrated for 91 octane. it will accept it because it has to, but more often than not those using 91 are getting a lot of knock and are seeing differences in power. these cars run much much better on 93 than they do on 91.

dynos and street driving say otherwise. i'm not going to argue about what's calibrated to what because in all honesty it doesn't really matter, but i can say that from reading about the results of tons of different cars in different areas, these cars do a hell of a lot better on 93 than on 91. even scc discovered that when they were doing their testing of the car. 91 often casues mild knock, 93 doesn't. that's just the way that these cars are responding to different octanes.

I run on 93 only. There are gas stations here with 91 and 92 Octance (Sunoco and Getty repsectively). But just like my oil filter drinks Mobil, my tank only sees Mobil 93.

I know what your saying and I'm not arguing with you but the facts are the facts. It becomes a different ballgame once you start to add mods to your engine, especally aftermarket WGA's and BC. You engine requirements are now different and the standard 91 octane may not be sufficent to reduce knock. Thats why I said if you stick with only Mopar upgrades you should never have a problem, which I don't.

To the one asking about race fuel, get a can of Torco Additive. It will up your tank of 91 octane to over 100 for just 20 bucks. Do a search for Torco. It comes in a quart can.

Mopar, I agree with both of you, but more with chick, while the car operate fine with 91 octane, I firmly believe you will not see optimum power with less than 93. Now ther difference might be slight, but measurable. This car is smart enough to adjust, it's not as simple as 91 or 100, with nothing in between.
