Default warrenty question

Hey i was wondering if a mopar blow off valve or a k&N short ram intake would void your warrenty because i am going to have to take my car in for service and dont want to lose my warrenty. Hopefully it wont because i dont want to have to take it all of and put the stock intake back on just so it can get serviced. Thanks

The only time they really have a problem is when a modification the owner installed creates a further more serious problem or damage to the car/engine! That is what my dealer told me just yesterday!

I know of one owner that had his drivetrain warranty voided for the MOPAR BOV. Keep in mind that the dealership, NOT CHRYSLER, voided his warranty stating that "The use of the MOPAR BOV changes the basic functionality of the SRT4 turbocharger and how it was designed to operate". I find this utterly rediculous and would sue their *** - if Dodge is going to market an "upgrade" accessory for my car and leave it up to the dealer to take my warranty claim in their own hands, I will completely boycott any product they ever make.

EDIT: Anyone who knows anything about turbocharged vehicles understands that a BOV will not only sound cool [personal opinion], but also lengthen the life of the turbocharger.

assume that anything you do will cause a problem, because it most likely will. i've heard of dealers attempting to void warranties because people put new tires on the car. dealers are ****** when it comes to modding. i always tell people that if they are seriously concerned about keeping the warranty keep the car stock until the warranty is up. if you don't care or are willing to take the risk on your dealer, go ahead and mod. but always assume that anything you change will be a cause for concern.

the law protecting us on this matter (MM Act) does not work, so don't even bother quoting it (i know someone is going to). the reality is that the dealer or dcx will void or restrict your warranty and it's up to you to prove that they are wrong.

The owner who hadd his warrenty voided needs to find a new dealership. Thats a bunch of crap. I've cracked my oil pan, broke my oil filter housing, and had a broken lifter. My dealership fix it all under warrenty and washed my car before I recieved delivery of it. I guess its just luck of the draw when you choose a dealership. If they give you problems just try another dealership. I take mine to a diffrent dealership than where i bought my car. Oh and my car was modded when i took it for repairs.

Thanks for the advice i guess im going to take the risk of going in with the blow off valve and ram air and see what they say. If they wont fix it under warrenty then ill try another dealer, ill post what they say when i take it in. Thanks

They have no legal right whatsoever to void your factory warranty and are operating outside the law in doing so and you should sue their asses off for it. This would be rather difficult, but they are so far in the wrong by trying to deny you your legal and legitimate claim that they need to be made to pay for it. If they try to deny you your service or repairs then you should call Chrysler and make your complaint directly with them to get the dealership to comply with the claim as well as the law.

that's weird-I have never heard of anyone having warranty voided over the Mopar BOV, especially considering that Stage 1 and 2 are covered under warranty, I believe...

nothing is covered under warranty. tell me, where in your owners manual or any paperwork does it say that dodge HAS to fix your car if if brakes? it doesn't, that's where. dealers have every right to deny you service for whatever reason they feel like coming up with. as far as voiding wawrranties goes, yes rr, you are right that it is illegal what they are doing. but the reality is that very few people are going to actually sue them over it, because it would cost more to sue than it would to fix whatever is broken. plus it will take a long time for the case to be settled, meanwhile your car is sitting rusting in a yard somewhere. not really worth it to most people. so they just deal with it and move on. dcx could care less that this is going on because it's the dcx regional reps that are doing the restricting of warranties, not the dealerships.

i called dcx once about my dealer, and the person i spoke to flat out told me that dcx wouldn't do anything about it so just go to another dealer and hope that they'll help me. she started a case file, but told me not to expect anything to ever come of it, because most likely it won't even be looked at. just goes to show how much dcx cares about its customers.

there is a person on srtforums that had his entire drivetrain warranty voided because of a mopar bov and stage 1. the problem with his car was that the flywheel bolts backed out, which is completly unrelated to either mod and is actually a factory defect and has been known to happen. before the dealer ever even looked at the car, they told him that his warranty was gone based on his mods. the then called in the dcx rep and made it official (dealers actually have no power to restrict/void warranties, dcx must do it. they can only deny you work). they are also saying that since stage 1 is not emissions legal than his car is not street legal so this voids his warranty in their minds. you'll be very surprised at what these places will come up with to get you to pay for stuff. this guy is taking dcx to court over this issue, and i would hope that he wins. but another part of the problem is that most people are so car stupid that they're going to believe any crap that a dealer tells them because they are supposed to be the experts and most people don't know any better. so there's no guarantee that he'll even win, don't count out the stupidity of the masses.
