Default Gear Braking

I know this is probably a stupid topic and a dumb question, but its on my mind so I'll ask anyways. I drive an 05 Stage 2 SRT4 How much do you gear brake? Is it bad for our cars? I love the pops, snaps and grumbles but I'm afraid it might be wearing down my tranny/clutch/gearbox. I do it because it sounds great, but also to spare my brakes. Lately, I've been hearing a 'metallic noise' (not a grinding noise) when I gear brake. Its not loud, but audible and its not new. Just curious if someone who knows more about the drive train could shed some light on this. Is our drivetrain robust enough to handle regular gear braking? Thanks for any information.
