05 Dodge Neon SXT Overheatingf
Transmission fluid had got into my transmission cause of my radiator and I just had my radiator replacaced, torque converter rebuild and my transmission just about a month ago. Friday morning( 11-13-09) I started my car like I always start it, put it into drive but when I put it into drive it made a loud "thug" noise as it shifted ( manual drive ). As I started to drive the car started to smell funny, like a mixture of water and transmission fluid. It didn't overheat but I did notice that the bar that usually is in the middle is just a little above the middle. I didn't drive it on Saturday, but today as I was driving it to work it kept doing the same smell, I checked the radiator when it cooled down and found no water and the radiator cap had this redish milky color fluid on it that looked like trans fluid. As I was driving home I started to hear it bubble and steam was coming into the car from the vents on the dash board and then it started to overheat which it had not done before. It is dripping alot water mixed with something from a hose that is at the back behind the engine on the passanger side, like a nozzel pointing down. Does anyone know what this could be? Sorry about such a long post, thank you.
So I have my car back. They found that my Heater Core was leaking fluid at the firewall at the passenger side. So they bypassed the heater core, temporarely in order to flush out the engine coolant system. So right now my heater system is not working. I was told to repair the bypassed heater lines. So do I need to just replace the Heater lines, or do I need to also replace the Heater core too? I am just asking cause I went to a diffrent mechanic and he quoted my $800 for the Heater Core, Coolant, Heater Lines, Thermostat and Clamps. But again do I need to replace the heater core?, why did they have to bypass the Heater core, is it cause its bad?
