Did I wait too long for the OCC mod?
My srt-4 has just rolled over 2k on the odometer. I haven't had the chance to do the occ mod yet. Is it too late for it? Have I waited to long? How will this affect the performance of my engine? These are things i have been thinking and i could have kicked myself for not doing this mod earlier. Thanks
It's really never too late for an OCC, I put mine on with around 500 miles on the car and after I saw all the oil it collected, it DID make me pause and think. If you change your oil when you're supposed to and use a quality full-synthetic, you've covered 75% of the maintenance on an SRT-4. The amount of oil that got blown by in 2,000 miles shouldn't affect your engine in any way that you'll notice....but I understand your concern.
i have 19,249 and still havent done that mod and i dont see a reson too. my car doesnt blow oil out the pcv/leak/or burn oil and i change the oil every 2k. matter of fact i have the hose conected to the intake and ive checked the intake inside and there is very little residue from the crankcase. i dunno maybe its cuz i use thick oil maybe?
Orochi, next time you have nothing better to do with your life prop up the car and crawl underneath. Check the hoses to your FMIC. Guaranteed theres oil on them. If you've REALLY got nothing to do....take off the FMIC and see how much oil is in there. In 4,000 miles on a perfectly stock engine, never driven hard, it had almost 4 ounces of oil in it. Four ounces may NOT seem like alot....but to sit in the bottom of an IC it is.
I did my OCC mod at around 11,000 miles. I have 15k now and I empty it weekly (Ghetto OCC not a big one). It fills itself right back up again. Its DEFINITELY worth doing. Theres no need to change oil every 2,000 miles. 3,000 is whats recommended and with full synthetic you dont need to freak if you go a bit over. Just get the OCC on there as soon as you can. Right now you have nothing to worry about with only 2k miles on there. But once you put the OCC on, empty your IC out for ****s and giggles just to see what you've accumulated, and to make sure its empty.
Once I put my OCC on, I no longer had any residue around my IC hoses. No more leakage

well when i changed my intercooler at 18k i didnt see any oil in there. there was a slight residue but nothing major. and after the 6 turbo cars ive owned ive never ran one. why start now? im sure it wont hurt tho. im just to lazy to make a cacth can i guess. as far as my oil i run my car hard and im **** about my oil. so i just change it as much as posible.its not a big deal for me. besides who would you rather buy a car from a guy who changes his oil and fluids as much as me puts spark plugs in every 6k and checks his car out every day or someone who just does what the book says and slips now and agian? thats just the way i look at it. i just take care of my cars. thats why they run just as good a 125k as they did at 2k. there isnt anything wroung with the way you do it thats just not me tho! and i run thicker oil than most so i think it doesnt get past the pcv as much...
I put the OCC on around 5k on my car. I'm still getting a bit of black residue on my tail pipes, so I don't think I'm capturing all the oil that blows out the PCV. Any suggestions on how to maybe catch it all?
Some people (RoadRunner for one) Have multiple catch cans. He'd be the guy to talk to about that.

You haven't seen much in the lines because it's getting burned in the cylinders or lying in the bottom of your intercooler. Oil gets past the PCV wether you like it or not and it's coating eveything from there on regardless of wether you've noticed it yet or not. If you put an OCC in you will see that it's far more oil than you thought.
