ORIGINAL: 71RoadRunner

My K & N Typhoon CAI is fantastic, gives great gains, looks great and sounds great, it's easily affordable and fits like a glove. Plus it can be switched to a short ram and used that way if you like and you can change it back to a full CAI anytime you want and as often as you like.
This is one thing I like a lot about the K & N. I was upset to find out that the cold air extension for the aem requires that you cut down the shortie...no switching back and forth[:@]. My concern was that I thought the K& N was a 2 1/2 " intake. Isn't it? If it's 3" - it would be a good option for a CAI. Haveing the convertibility to short ram for inclement weather is a big plus as far as I am concerned.

I am still going with my ducted/shielded short ram, though.

I appreciate all the feedback guys/gals. It is all being absorbed.

-Posthondaremoval; You will have pics of your CAI setup wont you?

-I just did the oil catch getto or redneck style today and it is working. 1500 miles on the car now & can't wait to do the first oil change but still haven't decided which oil I'm gonna run yet.

- Being a mechanic and somewhat creative, I dig do it yourself stuff, I believe it to be the Mopar way. You know, more homegrown ingenuity than you see from the me too Chevy and Ford types. For years, Mopar guys did not really have the aftermarket like the Chevy and Ford people and had to do it thierselves. Growing up in Flint as I did, would really make you feel like an outsider if you liked anything outside of GM.

-Before ya know it, I'll have the baddest SRT-4 around here (Kalamazoo) which might already be the case judging by how many I see driving around (0). I have only seen one new GTO as of this date. Kalamazoo is not a hotbed of street muscle as say Flint where I grew up. Really, not much muscle on the roads here. Flint was way different that way. That's a motorhead city if there ever was one. Going back to Flint today is almost like going back in time. The cars there still run the big and littles, jacked up rears and v-8 rear drive power. It's funny. They could give a crap about going around cones or stopping. They do not like anything that resembles a "fast and furious" type of car and will pick on you. They are old fashioned yes, but not slow. My advice here is do not go there on a friday or saturday night feeling cocky. You will get old schooled. Stage 3 plus would not be enough I assure you (well sometimes maybe). I don't have the kind of money it takes to be fast in Flint but if you can stuff a 500+cube B-1 or Hemi in a Neon you'd do well there.

-Well next is; get the break in oil change outta the way and trek on up to Martin (U.S. 131 Dragway) to get some baseline runs before the real horsepower mods start getting done. :-D

not to be a dick but.. when i said it hit the hood i ment just that.. i didnt mean hit the battery termails. it was so high we couldnt put a strut bar on. and when we closed the hood it rubbed. we never had a issue with the termail. but we had the CAI before it had a CARB number so maybe they changed it after. but that is a bad problem with it hitting the termail!

As far as I know the K & N is 2 1/2" and not 3", I know that mine is. This is fine since it is larger than the turbo inlet, which makes the even larger 3" intakes overkill.

I recently installed a Ultimate CAI for JMB Performance with an 8" K&N Filter and I am very impressed. Haven't DYNOed yet because I am waiting for my Stage 3 w/toys to come in the mail. I will post gains once I finish my installs. Check out jmbperformance.com and tell me what you think.

JMB looks like very good quality. I like the large radius bends. I went to thier website, I wish the pics of the shorties were working.

Does anyone know which CAI has the highest documented horsepower gains?

Thanks
Andrew
