Default Noob car decision

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I have been reading your forum for a little over a week ago and it looks like many of you are very knowledgeable about your SRT-4's and it seems you can find alot of useful information in this forum and also are given an opportunity to meet many cool new people. Now I have been debating now about whether to buy an SRT-4 or a WRX (I know don't start bashing it right away). I had a 2004 Ford Mustang GT as my last car, but I am going to grad school in Kansas in the Fall and that car just has no chance of surviving a Winter in that area with the snowfall. I absolutely love the looks of the SRT-4 and I also love the "Bang for the buck" you get for it. I have test driven one and it felt just as fast as my Mustang which I had many modifications done to and I was pleasantly surprised with the performance for the Neon and I definitely prefer the power of the Neon over the WRX, but I do like the fact the WRX has AWD which will really help me out in the snow. I am just wondering if any of you have driven these cars through the winter how did they handle the snowfall? My friend has a civic and i've driven that in the snow before and it wasn't too bad. Front wheel drive cars can get traction much better then the RWD Mustang lol. I also love the fact the Neon is going to cost me $3-4K less which is nice being in college and on a budget. Just wondering if you guys can give me some insight and try not to be honest even though I know how much you all love your cars (and for good reason) help me make a good decision. I love the black color of the SRT-4 im looking at also. It is the 2004 any only has 4,000 miles on it, so it's practically new. I am also wondering about which car is more easily modified? I really don't know much about turbochargers and I wanted to supercharge my Stang but never had enough money to go through with it. I apologize for this real long post but just looking for some feedback to help me make a decision that I will not regret. Also, does anyone on here in the MD Area? Just wondering because I really don't see too many of them around which I also like. Having something different is great (coming from a Mustang owner who saw 10,000 Stangs everytime I left the house lol). Ok lthis post is long enough, thanks again everyone and I hope to get to chat with some of you.

One thing, don't expect the srt-4 to handle in the snow with stock tires. It is like a pig on ice. Slap some winter tires on there and it is a different story, but the stock kdw's are a 3 season tire, for sure. I ran Blizzak LM-25's this past winter and the car handled great in the snow with those. The power difference between the SRT-4 and WRX is quite noticeable. If you like fast (it sounds like you do) you won't be dissapointed with the SRT-4. The SRT-4 also LOVES mods.

the srt does ok in the snow as long as you put on snow tires. blizzak's like posthonda suggested are a great winter tire and will help out a lot.

as for modding, the srt is a million times easier to mod than the wrx. what a pita a wrx is. my friend had one, and i hated working on that thing. everything was a problem, nothing ever fit right, and everything cost twice as much as it did for my srt.

FWD with good winter tires works just fine, provided you use a light foot and take it easy (i.e., use common sense). It's certainly way, way better than RWD. Choose the car you'd most like to drive all year.

I appreciate all the responses to the post guys. Yeah I was looking at a WRX Forum and it looked like all the mods had alot to do more with tuning and flashing the ECU's. Hardly anyone talked about bolt-on parts or engine work. Yeah I have had my eyes on this Black SRT-4 at the local dealership and I think I am gonna purchase it. What is the difference in the ACR Package?

the acr comes with 16x7" rims with 225 tires on it, adjustable shocks, and sway bars. unless you're big into autox it's not really worth it imo.
