Xtra Popping.

The pop has gotten really forceful, lately, and while it was fun, before, to hear it occasionally, now it "afterfires" between every shift if I rev it at all hard (meaning rev it sort of hard up to 3800 rpm or so) and pause between gears. Sometimes it even does it at lower rpm's.

I don't have any suggestions, but going on the theory that every cloud has a silver lining, with an open DP or side-exit exhaust you could be shooting out flames every time you shift. [sm=icon_sneaky.gif]

From you, Post[sm=happy046.gif][sm=jawdrop.gif]. you must be running extremely rich. or have a flame kit...[sm=joke.gif].
Or is this not what you expected to happen?[sm=ummmmokay.gif][sm=ummmmokay.gif][sm=ummmmokay.gif]

Oh I like the flames just fine
. I knew the car would rip, snarl and bark. I like that. I just don't understane why it has increased so much lately. Nothing about the car has changed.
Black4:
post it might seem louder and more aggresive because you removed the cat just a thought.
Of course, I was asking about the change that has occurred recently, I have been catless for quite a while.
Hopefully she will settle down later this summer when they swithc the gas formulas again.

My nismo was N/A SR20 and would snap crackle and pop like you all said the problem soon turned to flames out the exhaust with a very rich smell of gasoline.......but what would you expect w/ 300zx injectors /fuel pump....If u did the fuel upgrades and such w/ the stage 1 and two you might wanna upgrade the ecu to handle the Litre flow cuz if you have the extra fuel in the cylinder and its not igniting right then could be causing detonation. Running rich isnt bad but running too rich can have a damaging effect to you motors life span....where revving higher and racing can help expel it better its not always the best thing to do....My car was fast but reaked of gas out the tailpipe and eventually burnt a hole in my piston And I kick myself in the butt for this cuz I never upgraded this in the ECU. So if you havent upgraded you Ignition system its prolly a good Idea also control your litre flow through ECU. But your car might be fine its not too uncommon for upgraded car w/ FI to do this. B/C exhaust gases are expelled a lot differently then the N/A. My friends Rx-7 blows flames out all the time and only has like 320 whp but then again thats a completely different motor now isnt it so I cant quite compare. Im not sure about OBD 3 and after ECU systems so I dont know how learned memory works but if you can reset or even reflash it it might work out for the better cuz I always here of ECUs not recognizing upgrades and sometimes shoot codes and sometimes not at all.
stage 1 and 2 both come with new ecu's that are specifically designed to run with the included components. yes, the srt is designed to run rich, but not rich enough to cause a problem. getting a emanage or something like that is beneficial as you can lean the car out some, but running it straight off the ecu as designed isn't a problem either.
Well I always thought they were designed to run rich but I was just letting you know of my experience w/ my upgrades. What octane are you s'posed to use after the upgrades are they still the same? And whats up w/ this summer gas thing cuz my neon never used to backfire either and lately it has but not as often as say my last car but at least twice a day?
