Don't count out the massively entertaining SRT-4 in third. The automotive embodiment of ****-and-vinegar slid, spun and muscled it's way onto the wettest podium in car test history. Impressive!

The SRT-4 did a wonderful job, beating the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Nissan Sentra SE-R, Scion tC, Mazda Miata Gen. 1, Acura TSX, Datsun 510 Rally Beater, Nissan 350Z and the Nissan 300ZX TT. All ate dust!

pg. 130

In effort to give Project SRT-4 a little more grunt, a Stage 3 turbo upgrade from Mopar in the cards, consisting of a revamped TD05H Mitsubishi turbocharger, a high-flow (180lph) fuel pump, a fuel rail assembly with a 4-bar returnless regulator, four 682cc fuel injectors and a 3-bar MAP sensor. We're anxious to see if our car will make the 365 ft-lbs of torque, which is exactly what we believe any light weight front-wheel-drive car needs. There's a vague possibility we'll be using a more modern set of brakes to bring out Neon to a halt from aircraft carrier take off speeds as well. Should project SRT-4 stick to it's Mopar roots and become a drag car? Should it be a time attack car? Let us know what you think at sccnews@primedia.com.
I think they were very suprised it came in 3rd. If they don't have repsect for the SRT-4 now, there is no hope for Sport Compact Car magazine......
