Sounds during Boost?
What exactly causes the various rattling noises when under boost conditions. I believe it is the wastegate but wonder why it isn't either open or closed rather than flapping? I have the stock WGA but read that the sounds are the same or louder with Stage2 or AGPwastegates also. I would think that the stronger spring arms on the upgraded WG would help quiet things a little. The WGA arm open and closes the WG to let out pressure. Why does the set up flutter - rattle - so much, Other turbo cars don't seem to sound like ours? Is the SRT-4 turbo wastegate and activator different in design and operation?
I think you may be hearing the flutter or "horse laugh" from the compressor on the turbo. It is normal. Our turbo's spool up very quickly, and when the blow off valve lets the pressure out of the intercooler piping, you get the "flutter" as you call it. A CAI will usually make this much more noticiable.
I love the horse laugh!!! Its louder with a Mopar BOV (or any BOV full or not) and a Shortie or a CAI. I like the way our cars sound, its good that no other turbo car sounds like ours....thats why I love it so much!
