Staged pcm's and OBDII Enhanced Emissions
Ok,
Flipping through an old thread, and want some more info on this subject.
Pennsylvania is a Enhanced OBDII Emissions state. What that means, is that anything 1996 or newer no longer gets a tailpipe sniff test for emissions. All vehicles post 96 are REQUIRED to go through a OBDII readyness indicator test.
My question is this......
How are all of the staged SRT's, as well as staged cars that are catless getting through OBDII emissions??
I thought that staged PCM's set of trouble codes that do not trigger a SES activation.
In Pa, our Emissions machines would pick up this trouble code, and the car instantly fails.
Just curious,
Any Pa registered owners????
Adam????

some of the pa people have done emissions with no problems. but you will run into the same problem that i am now with the toys ecu. the non-toys versions pass just fine, the toys ecu's fail.
So only the s2 w/toys pcm's throw a false code????
And how about rediness monitors?? our state machines check to make sure they are all functioning and sending data, how can they send data if they don't exist??? (o2 sensors for catless staged cars)
????

stage 1 is fine, no need to change anything.
morning - the stage ecus don't eliminate readiness monitors. all it changes is that the second o2 sensor is not used to monitor the system. everything else is still in place.

Hey Jeff - s2 with toys can pass, but you might need to hook up a line or two differently while testing, I will find out exactly, but It can definitely be done. I am inspected, and you know what I've got
. BTW, I put the no-cat d/p on after the inspection.

Yo!
I was waiting for you to chime in.
I kinda figgured the DP went on after the inspection.....Thanks for clearing that up!
It was nice to meet you finally!

PSI,
I am confused. (that's obvious!)
Here's how I understand it.
The OBD machine connects to the vehicle and checks all rediness monitors to see that they are ready and sending data.
In Pa. anything 01 & newer is alowed 1 monitor to be N/A.
So what you are telling me is, the staged pcm shows os2(postcat) as Not ready, right!!!
So, as long as all of your other monitors are in ready status, and there are no pending DTC's, it should pass!
But doesn't S2 & S3R show a eronious pending DTC??? Our emissions program would pick this up, even if it's pending and not active. Hence, the car would fail anyways!

the only pending readiness test would be the o2 sensor. if pa allows you one, then there's your one. just be sure that the others are ok. the reason that the toys ecu's fail have nothing to do with readiness tests. it's because they throw three codes related to automatic transmissions. there is no way to bypass these codes by changing a few lines around. the toys ecu's fail, period. a few people are looking into creating a box which will give power to the appropriate circuits so that the codes do not appear, but for now there is no way to make the toys ecu's pass as is in states where there are stricter emissions laws other than removing the toys ecu.
