Default my stupid friend again...........

I'm talking to him tonight and he tells me:

"Word,,,,,,you won't believe this, but I still don't have a catch can for my 05 SRT."

I say, "huh? Why? You know that you should have one on your car by now. How many miles do you have on it, anyhow?"

He says, "Well,,,,,I have almost 2800 miles on it, and I know I should put it on there, but I have a couple of problems with doing it."

I say, "Okay,,,,tell me what the problem is, because I am on this really cool internet site and there are people there that might be able to help."

He says, "Well,,,,I hadn't put one on my car, because it isn't in the manual that I should put one on it, and I thought that if it really affected the car, then Dodge would have mentioned it in their manual. But,,,,I have been seeing other people with SRT's and without a doubt, they all have them on their cars."

I say, " Hmmm,,,,,,well,,,,most everyone I know has one on their car, so lets tear down that macho facade of yours and you tell me why you really don't have one on there, will ya?"

He says, "Okay,,,,I have been pricing some and saw a catch can on Ebay and thought about getting one off of there."

I say, "Okay,,,,that sounds pretty resonable, are you going to do that?"

He says, "well,,,I'm hesitant to do so, because I would have no idea how to put one on. You know,,,,like where exactly it goes, and if I tried putting it on and put it on wrong, I have heard a LOT about boost leaks and I surely don't want to have one of those."

I say, "good grief,,,,,,you sound gayer than a picnic basket, did you know that?"

He says, "look,,,,I come to you for help."

I say, "okay,,,,okay,,,,I'll run it by my friends at the forum site."

well,,,that's where we are. Do you all think "my friend" should buy this catch can off of ebay? And if so, do you think he will be able to install it with just his few tools without creating boost leaks?

well there is a sticky for the 20$ occ which shows how to make them and install them... if your friend wants a more expensive one than ebay is just fine just dont get a cheep one if your going to spend the money (generic types) and if you get a decent on via internet then it should have detailed instructions that yes (dare i say even you wordslayer could handle).

any other ?'s just shoot.

I dont have one either. I have 30,500 miles on the car. I took it off about 5k ago to have the PCV valve replaced. I didnt then, and still dont, have any oil in the intercooler at all. I wouldnt do the ghetto one again though, Id probably run a perrin or a greddy.

Well here's my 2 cents. I put one on because I read about it and looked at my car when it was new and found oil in the line and intake. So I fabbed the 20 dollar one as instructed and was very pleased and at the same time dismayed to see how much oil it was catching. So I initially felt vindicated. Then my hose collapsed. Relax! it happens to us all once in a while I told myself. :-) That was because I used the snazzy clear hose which is not reinforced enough and can't take the heat and get's too soft. So I replaced the soft clear hose with black fuel hose and it has been fine since only you know what? That was at about 6-7000 miles and I am at 9000 + now and have yet to need to empty the catch can again. So what I think is happening is; you get a lot of blow by from the piston rings when the engine is new, (causing the excessive oil vapor and case pressure) and since everyone is using synthetic oil, it takes longer for the rings to seat, but they eventually do and the blow by stops or cuts way down and you will not need a catch can. It may still be better to have it and not need it though.
That is my 2 cents.

you dont empty your can anymore? i have 17k on mine and it gets emptyed about every 150-300 miles. how full is your can right now? cause after it gets about 3/4 full it will start running down the line to the intake mana.
