Boost Issues
Hey Guys,
This is a first for me and I do apologize if this question has already been answere once. I have a 04 and its completely stock. I bought it new about 4 months ago and its been AWSOME. I'm noticing now though within the past 2k miles that I'm not getting the same boost readings that I used to. I'm only able to reach about 12-13 PSI on the boost gage. What I used to get is about 15-16 PSI. What could be the cause of this. I checked for leaks and haven't really seen any. Everything is tight so I'm not sure where to turn. I asked the dealer about it and they told me its the weather..... "IDIOTS". Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem.
Thanks,
Sam

Sam, Homie - you aren't going to like my answer, but those "IDIOTS" are probably correct in this situation. You might have one of the few dealers that knows something about srt-4's(most haven't got a clue).
The cars boost is directly related to how hot it is outside. A stock SRT-4 will push 14-16 psi in 90-100 degree weather. The same car will run around 12-13 psi in 50 degree weather. Wait until winter, you'll be getting around 11-12 when it is <30 out.
Good thing is - it isn't a problem. Your car will be making the same power output at all of those numbers. Infact - I bet you'll be faster at 50 degrees and 13 psi than 15psi at 100.
Something to think about is volumetric efficiency - as our atmosphere carries the densest and most accesable charge of o2 at around 55 degrees. You need less air at 55 degrees to burn the same amount of fuel than you would at 100 degrees. This ECU is pretty damn smart. (Too smart, sometimes if you ask me
)

Yeah yeah those idiots have some type of knowledge on these cars. Im actually thouroughly astounded that they do!!! All factors considered, weather plays a huge huge part in boost spike/hold. Listen to posthonda. He knows his ****....
I'm amazed. I never trust dealers. "I've had a bad experience with them." Thanks a lot for the information. One thing I do notice is that in the colder weather the fuel economy drops too. If you guys have any good tips you could throw my way I'm always interested.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
