several of my relatives are cops and say a lot of what reject has said ...yeah you dont have quotas, but you have a certain amount to maintain month by month or they look at it as a performance issue....if that is not a quota lets just call it a rate maybe that word is a little more "constitutional". But what would you and I know? You just maintain it and the lawmakers write it and im just the guy who gets the ticket for 5-10 over and my state local and federal taxes taken out to pay your types to be ******** to me while your writing your rate fulfilling ticket. If thats justice then okay where does my fine go??? Your pocket? the gov'ts??? ...ding ding ding Hey! they get more money you get your quota I mean rate and they still take your money every week...If that isnt propaganda I dont know what is. Just figured Id tell you where the lies were propigated.....But thats just my opinion take it for what you will.

Ive known a lot of cops and it funny how they pick a stereotypical person to give their tickets to.....Some cops are very nice some cops arent and always seem like they have a chip on their shoulders. You are just doin your jobs I dont have a problem w/ that but when there is always attitude involved and such like wordslayer was saying or 20 questions about where they worked or where they lived is just utterly ridiculous what does that have to do with why the were speeding??? If he stayed in the ritz carlton would you right him a ticket? If you asked him if he donated to the state troopers charity and he had the sticker in the back of his window would you still give him a ticket? Funny cuz ive given money and hey, still got a ticket. But Im a stereotypical kid with a sporty car so Im a good target for a ticket.....back when I had my omni and went speeding everywhere I never got a 2nd look. But were criminals who break speed limit laws. And Im sure you never speed...

Ok, where do I start

Cops don't let girls out of tickets. I'm 19, consider myself good looking, have both T & A , and I never get out of anything. I have had enough tickets in the last 3 years to kill someone, and at one point didn't have a license. (Colorado has a stupid point system). Here they don't let girls out of anything. I had a cop tell me once, "If you can run with the big boys, you can get the punishment" WTF is that supposed to mean? Seriously.

Also, every cop does have a traffic ticket quota. I dated a guy for 2 years and his Dad was a cop and he told me a lot about why they give out warnings and what to say when you get pulled over, obviously that didn't help, but still. . . .

you need to learn how to use your t&a more than! hehe seriously though, girls do get out of tickets a hell of a lot more than guys do. i get pulled over, but don't get tickets too often. i'm 26 and i have 3 tickets on my record in 10 years of driving (wow that just made me feel really old). i know what cops are like in colorado, i lived there for a couple of years. they're not that bad, and believe me when i say that they have nothing on nypd highway 1 or ny state troopers.

Not a big fan of cop types myself, I know there are good ones and bad ones. My wife used to be a cop. Thank God she isn't any more, but oh do I have stories. Most of which would anger you and confirm your suspicions. To me, there are a couple of personality traits many bad cops have that should be weeded out before they ever make it out of training. One is power hunger, another is self righteousness. Those two guarantee a bad cop and unfortunately, it seems they do not screen them out. The truth is, almost all cops are in some way corrupt. It starts the first day on the job when after being hammered all during thier training to be the most righteous, moral and professional they can be and they go to lunch with their new partners at a local favorite greasyspoon. When they get up to leave, the rookie goes to pay and gets the "look" from his/her partner and hears him mutter don't worry about it as they leave. When back in the cruiser, the rookie is chastised and told he needs to forget what he was told in training and he will never pay for lunch again. From then on, the abuse of power begins and grows. I'm sure it's quite intoxicating. I watch my wife as she watches shows like "COPS" and see how she relives those days and it sometimes bothers me how much she misses wacking drunken bums with her PR-24. I love my wife, but as a cop, I would have put her in the bad cop category. I don't think she ever gave a warning. Ever. She was hardcore. She once pulled a blue haired ladies license on Christmas day because she wasn't driving so well. The Grinch with a badge.
I've had warnings, and I've had tickets. Lot's of both, (I've been a bad boy ;-D) and that prompts me to remind you all that the real crime here is what the insurance companies are going to do when they find out you have gotten a ticket for speeding.
Oh yeah, now there's the crime.

well i have nothing against the troopers themselves, they're there to do a job and they do it. they just can be hard asses about it. you get pulled by a trooper, there's not a chance in hell that you're getting out of it. and they always show up to court. but they can be pretty cool about things, my brother got nailed by one doing 95 in a 55 and the guy wrote the ticket for 82 in a 55 so that he didn't have to take the car for reckless driving, and then went to court and reduced it to 68 in a 55. i think my brother found the coolest state trooper ever, because i've never heard of that happening before!

I like how the troopers call ahead to confirm if you are going to court or not...with the bench filer. The cop who got me recently called down b4 I even showed up and the filing clerk called him to let him know I was there. When he got there it looked like he had just rolled outta bed...LMAO I bet he was pissed after the fact b/c I had already talked the prosecution down to a 2 dollar fine and no ticket on my record before he got there (kind of like a diversion). I even called him a name when he stopped me for speeding b/c I didnt think he was being fair about my reason for speeding and the fact that he didnt pull over the lady who was riding my *** the same time he clocked me. He was probably new though cuz he looked younger then me. He still had the "******* attitude". Which is why I layed down the comment. I just think some cops are a waste of taxpayers dollars IMO... Its funny how many you see them on the news as pedophiles, bought into crime, or mental cases who hurt innocent bystanders. Two weeks ago there was over 200,000 dollars worth of cars/parts lifted off of Dodge/BMW/mercedes and other dealerships around my town ...Where were the cops then?? Anyhow they estimated 80 ppl involved...to pull of that much theft. Still dont know how they pulled it off w/out 0 arrests but thats My towns finest (laughable)

There are no traffic ticket "quotas", but some PD's DO tend to look at ticket #'s when it comes to performance report time. I work for a Sgt that prides himself on the dollar amount of tickets he writes each week. Again, there in nothing in the department regulations saying you HAVE to write X amount of tickets. But if you lag behind everyone else, they start to question your performance.....I know, it happened to me.

Attitude and honesty are the two biggest factors in a cop writing you a ticket (assuming you don't smell/look like you've been using/drinking). Even my grumpy old Sgt has been known to let a person go with a warning (or even less) if they are upfront and honest. Cops are human, too.

On point, Dusty. I have gotten out of many tix by pulling over FAST when I see lights, and listening to what the officer has to say, and fessing up, and even apologising. Usually officers respond well to this.

I have been cited for failure to obey a traffic signal when doing 145 in a 55 in delaware(he only had me clocked at 84 on the radar, but said that he saw the sparks off my brakes and smoke from my tires when I slammed the brakes to drop from 145 to the speed where he got me). I received nothing after doing 90 over a bridge in a 35 and getting pulled over on my way down to sema last summer.

I argee with what srt4babe said, that cops aren't necessarily easier on ladies. My girlfriend is astounded at the couple I have talked my way out of when she has been in the car. It is all about delivery.

Also - I have an unfounded suspicion that they look at the past and see 3 suspensions and lots of tickets and figure that I have more that paid my dues As a young lad between 14(i know no d/l 'til 16) and 17 I had 3 suspensions, and many, many tickets.lol

In all seriousness - I think I learned how it works with all my previous experience. I hardly ever have an issue, now, after 17 years of driving. I don't speed in residential areas much - never near my home, and might just have some judgement finally.
It is kind of a running joke at this point between me and the locals. The cops around here know me well at this point and they are pretty cool. We laugh and smile when we catch glances on the road. A good friend even brought me back into one of the back squad rooms where they have their "wall of fame" as they put it. My car's picture was posted right there, along with about 80 others. I couldn't believe my eyes. I am the first one to call the police when I see an idiot doing 50 in front of my house and driving dangerously around kids and they know that, too.

Bottom line is that experience and judgement make all the difference in the world. If you are doing 50 in a school zone, you are foolish and deserve a ticket and will eventually get one. Extreme example, but I think it illustrates the point.

Also on the highway - a 300$ investment in a good radar detector is indispensable.

Safe driving everyone!!!

LOL post you got it easy!!! 145 in a 55!!! good god thats crazy!! I would never do that unless I were in a non speed control area like the badlands or something. Or maybe the salt flats. Its easy to do but lockin em up like that is asking for trouble at those speeds.

Yup, the bottom line is you gotta map out the areas you might want to speed in......stay away from schools, retirement homes, and obviously police department sub-stations. Anyone living in a large city is going to have to go out of town to do their thing. Cops tend to concentrate radar/laser at points where you can't see very far down the road......in other words, watch out for sharp curves, hills, etc.

Also, if you want to speed during the holidays, do it on Christmas Day or New Years Day. Staffing at most PD's on these days is almost always skeleton crew. But don't try it at night because they are on the lookout for possible DWI's.....

Needless to say, don't drink and drive.....stick around so you can post on DF!
