Alright,,,,,tell me if I have this right.
The O2 is a piece of pipe that connects to the downpipe on our cars, right? Okay,,,,this O2 piece really hurts performance and needs to be three inches, right? Wait,,,,tell me if I have the order right first.
Manifold, O2, Downpipe, cat......(now,,,,everything that connects FROM the downpipe to the back of the car is just called the exhaust, right? And in this exhaust, you can either have the cat or not have the cat, right?
Soooooo,,,,,if we were going to change out our exhaust systems, then we would need to get a three inch O2 piece...(btw,,,what is a 3" O2 piece called)? Anyhow, change out the 3" O2 piece, then the downpipe to 3 inch, and then either leave our stock exhaust on or not, right? In other words, we can get three inches all the way back to our 2.25 stock systems, right? Also,,,do they make a piece that combines the downpipe and the O2 into one piece? Or hey,,,paint them all green and have "green peace???" Sorry.
Anyhow,,,if I have it right, then changing the O2 pipe and the downpipe doesn't seem like it would be that expensive. Have I finally gotten it?

I'm with 4.7 on this one. Putting a bigger pipe ahead of a smaller pipe doesn't make much sense unless you use a cutout ( a "Y" with a cap on one branch that can be opened either automatically or manually).
Some of your terminology is confusing to both you and me. The O2 pipe is actually the down pipe. The O2 sensor is just a sensor screwed into the downpipe. The O2 sensor itself, is not much of a restriction. The small diameter of the stock pipes is the restriction. The downpipe is the first section of pipe South of the turbo but ahead of the Cat.
Anyway, it all needs to be larger if your going to truly upgrade the exhaust.
BTW, if you want more performance and still want to save the earth, a high flow cat w/3 in. in and out can be used instead of no cat, but you still have to run unleaded gas of course.
