Do I have a brake problem???
Ok I was driving about a week ago and someone infront of me slammed on their brakes and forced me to lay into mine as well... When I slammed on my brakes I got a soft feeling in the pedal and a grinding feeling in the pedal, the only mental picture I have is something like grinding knuckles? I have had ABS systems before and never experienced this.... I have driven several types of performance vehicles and never felt this. I felt like I wasnt stopping fast enough, and was forced to swerve on to the median, nearly missing the car that caused this disasterous stop. I was wondering if my brakes are suppoed to do this or is this something that I need to bring to the dealers attention.
Thanks

Yes, they are supposed to do that, that is in fact the ABS kicking it. Youll notice it more on rougher pavement, snow, etc. But any EXTREME stop and the pedal will do that. Its a Dodge ABS system, Ive had two and driven many, they all react the same way. No need to worry.
It sounds like the ABS was working properly. You will feel a "pulsing" in the pedal and may even hear the electric pump working. That is all normal ABS operation. The tires should not lock up. The fact that you were able to steer while on the brakes is one of the greatest benefits of ABS. Had the tires locked up, you may well have not avoided the collision at all. However, I will say that if you have any doubt's get it checked. Normally, if the ABS is faulty, you will have a light on in the dash.
