Default Sweet and Low

Question:

I am taking my car to the mechanic tomorrow. I have goldline lowering springs on my car already. Since I changed out my wheels, the freaking back end of my car, because of the rear wheel gap, seems too high. I talked to the mechanic today and I asked him if there was anything he can do to the back end of my car, short of new springs, to lower it a little bit more. He said he will take a look and see. My question:

Is there anything he can do? If there isn't, I won't have him messing with it.

put a few 100lbs in the trunk lol

I don't really think there's anything you could do short of new springs or coilovers

Nothing good short of spending some money for different springs.
That being said here's a list of Matt's redneck suspension mods that will make the car lower in the back;
1) 2 cinder blocks in the trunk. (You could substitute for sand bags) and/or carry enough weight to give the car a "set" once the weight is removed due to spring fatigue.
2) you could carefully heat with a torch and "reshape" the coil. (hard to make left and right even)
3) you could use spring clamps
4) you could whack a chunk of coil off. (usually done in addition to #2)
5) you could use ride height restraining devices made from chain or nylon strap. (hey they do it in Nascar)
6) you could cut and relocate the bottom spring perch lower on the strut if you have ANY room to do so.
Have you noticed how many of these suggestions require the use of one of my favorite tools? The torch, or as I like to refer to it, the smoke wrench.
Disclaimer time;
I do not necessarily endorse redneck modifications though I may do them myself, but that's my business.
Note that all of these suggestions have been used successfully by someone, somewhere at sometime. (Mostly in nascar)

Wow, Pressure.....

Yeah,,,I think all those mods would work, but that would scare the daylights out of me by cutting springs or heating them....LOL.

I was wondering if there were an adjustment on the springs/struts and the stuff down there to take a little off of it, but from what you guys are saying, it doesn't look like it.

Therefore, I am going to tell the mechanic today to NOT mess with trying to lower it any more. He is going to mount my shift **** and cut a little off the stock height, though. BTW,,,,,I don't know if you all knew this or not, but the shift **** that I got is pretty heavy. When I put it on and tried to install it, before the failure, it really helped to put the car in gear easily. I know,,,,doesn't make sense, because it doesn't weigh that much more, but it really seemed to help the car to slide into gear easier, especially reverse.

Agreed that a heavy **** will help significantly with smoothness, making it feel more like the shifter is falling into gear, as well. I had the same result with mine. Get some mothers mag and aluminum polish, as well. the ball(if you have an aluminum ball shifter) will lose its luster pretty quickly.

Note - when you cut the shaft, you can no longer use the mopar one that you will actually enjoy when it is 25degrees outside and the shifter is ice to the touch for 30 minutes b4 it warms up to a comfortable level. Same for very hot summer months. definitely invest on a cloth to keep in the car for times like that or even a sock to put over it when you don't want to feel the temperature of that thing.

Actually there is an easy way to heat the springs and shrink them evenly side to side.

Place the car on a 2-post hoist, then raise it up in the air, place jackstands/cinderblocks under the rear TIRES, then lower the hoist the amount you want the springs to compress/shrink, leaving a gap between the hoist and jacking points, then heat the springs on both sides in a few passes, until the car "sags/Shrinks" the coils enough that the car now sits on the hoist again on both sides, let the springs cool,,,,,DO NOT spray them with water to cool them, that will mess with the strength/elasticity of the springs. Then drop on the ground, and Voila! Yeah it's kinda ghetto, but a very cheap and easy way to lower a car with the stock springs, without dishing cash for coilovers or the such. Ride quality will suffer, but our cars don't ride like caddy's anyways, but that is why we bought them.

He's not on the stock springs...don't know if that affects your strategy or not...
