Default and the fun keeps coming......

I just took my car to get the oil changed....pretty simple task, right? Wrong.

I am about half a mile down the road and I notice my check engine light is on. It is a picture of a motor lit up.

I immediately turn back around to see the mechanic. He looks at it and doesn't know why it is on. He takes a scan tool and runs it on my car. His scan tool doesn't work for an 05, so he tries it on the 04 model. He finally gets it to read out and it shows a number 4 cylinder misfire. He clears it out. I go to leave and the light is not back on....yet.

Is this something that I should be concerned about? A cylinder misfire code seems bad....real bad.

Thoughts?

check your wires...I would pop the hood and push down on the wires...did it show which cylinder or was it a multicylinder misfire? Could have just bucked loose but I dunno. BTW the reset button would be the last thing I do...not the first.

How many miles do you have on her?

Yes,,,it showed a number 4 cylinder misfire. The mechanic pushed down on the wires that hook to the spark plugs. He then pushed the other ends of those same wires into what used to be called, when I was a kid, the distributer. He didn't reset anything...yet. He did hook a machine up under the dash and did a scan test.

I Had the same thing happen,My check engine light came on so i took it to dodge...They said you have a #4 misfire(the wire and plug were fouled out,so they put new wires and plugs on it...4 days later light popped back on,so im already pissed cause it was suppose to be fixed...Anyways i took it back and i ended up having a #4 plugged injector...So if anything take it to dodge and tell them to run the tests....Make sure they run the test though or else They will probably just do the TSB(plugs and wires)that might fix your problem but make sure they get it right so you dont have to keep going back...

Great! Thanks for the advice. Freaking dealer is out of town though. But at least it will be worth having a little peace of mine. The injector, huh? Hmmmm.

What happens is that the fourth spark plug wire heats up too much from the heat of the turbo. If the wire appears white in any way shape or form, take it to dodge and have them check it out. This has happened to me god knows how many times, but I still havent bought new plugs and wires yet...damn im lazy.

Yup, you need to get some MSD plug wires, they're cheaper than the other brand and will keep the wires away from the heat source, your turbo. It's a cheap, easy fix. My SRT-4 was melting my #4 wire after 1500 miles. No problems since then.
