Is it neccessary?

 

Depends if you don't want to sit there and let it idle before shutting down if you've been boosting. I thought about getting one but I don't have any problems with sitting there and letting it idle for a couple minutes if it needs to.

 

You have to sit there for a good 2 minutes or you are not doing anything, maybe longer after you get down driving on a highway. I know when I get off a highway in my neck of the woods on my way to a car hangout, i pop my hood when I get there, and when I saw that turbo glow redish orange, i boosted my turbo timer up to 4 minutes. Turbo timer is a good mod, plus most turbo timers have multiple features. If you are thinking about geting one, you should just go buy one.

 

It is a good investment since the turbo glows red after moderate driving. My buddy with the Camaro SS was frightened when he saw it! LOL

Make sure your using a good synthetic too, it takes more heat before it cokes up.

ALSO, be carefull with some of those front strut tower bars. Most seem to block the airflow from the hoodscoop to the turbo area.
