Carkid,

horsepower is a function of torque, engine speed, and a conversion factor... the equation for HP is something like :

HP=(T*RPPM)/5635

or something like this... the 5635 is not right, but is something similar... T = Torque and RPM... well... that should be a no brainer... Your optimum torque range is less than the HP range... some engines produce a broader and flatter torque curve which produce HP that almost looks like a straight line on a dyno sheet (I think the S2000 does this??)... point being, HP is almost always higher than torque when compared to RPM's for max. values... (this doesn't mean HP has a higher value overall - aka... 230 HP and 250 ft.-lbs of Torque... but look where those numbers are produced in relation to RPM range. 5200 RPM and 3000 (?) RPM. )

If you haven't got the short throw shifter get it, and the booger bushings and a new shift ***, Modern performance has by far the best out there it has 7 allen screws holding it on and it looks almost stock. The worse feeling in the world is missing a gear in a race or while showing off to friends and hold up your right hand with the shift ball in it, been there an done that.
Onto shifting. launch the car at 2000 to 2500 rpms this gets you out of the lag zone and will only chirp the tires and you get a good hard launch. Shift to second at around 4500 rpms, watch out 1st winds up real fast, if your not carefull youll redline it. shift all the other gears around 5000 rpms as well. If you look at a dyno chart of a stock srt-4 you will see that everything falls way off by the 6000 rpm redline. And of course if you install a S2 kit or other mods, tires, CAI, Exhaust, etc. You have to learn the new power bands and shift points, no one knows what your car will do but you. What works on mine wont work on yours and vice versa.

Cool, thanks! So far mine is still stock. Transmission and all. Is there something wrong with the stock transmission?

Some people just prefer a shorter "throw" when shifting. Me, I like to "work" the gearbox...[&:]

Yeah that's me, I'm a racer. I just suck though. So I'm a very low-level racer x;P. I can go VERY fast on straights though!! Isn't that impressive? I have a lead foot on the gas it seems. I'm horrid at starting..that's really my only downside. My shifting is fine, now that I'm used to what RPM's to shift at in my SRT-4, but I still start with a jerk. For some reason, I wish gas pedals were stiffer. Every car that I've driven has had such easy gas. I feel asthough my foots weight alone is too much even haha. The clutch on the SRT-4 is really nice though. It's very light, which makes it easy to change from clutch to gas (aslong as it's not from a stand still to driving, but that's just because I suck at it =P)

Perhaps I should think of a new starting technique, because it's embarrassing to jerk when starting and make your wheels screetch haha. I do like "baby burnouts" constantly, it's ridiculous -.0. Even in a civic I did it, haha.
