Default Kicker sub replacement

I've got the the Kicker sound system in my car, and I'm wondering if there is a "better" speaker that I put in the back. I've never been into filling the trunk with a bazillion speakers or installing a head unit with a go go gadget 90 inch plasma screen with mind reading capabilities, but I would like something that hit's harder than what's back there right now. I'm not really looking to spend a great deal of money on it. Is there anything that I can fit in the current box that is basically plug and play that will give me some more bump.

I'm not sure what would fit in there but I was planning on putting a Kicker comp series sub in my car. Attaching a bigger amp to the rear fold down. That is my plan.

That unit is non-serviceable.

Buy a nice headunit and put it in, with more adjustments at your fingertips youll have more highs and lows coming out of the factory system, with the kicker sub. My mirror...NEVER vibrated...now the damn thing vibrates so much it knocks itself down (not off the window, but the mirror itself droops down).

Trust you me...the headunit is the key, and simple is better in this case, get anything too powerful and youll risk alot.

The beautiful woman has spoketh the truth on this matter. Headunits make a huge difference in how a sound system will perform. They typically have better controls that can be modified to fit your specific listening style, as well as being able to turn down or up the treble/bass in the front and rear speakers. That alone can improve sound quality.

If you really want to slam an aftermarket sub in the car, and keep the size/power to a reasonable sound/dollars, you are probably best off buying one of those amp powered sub kits. They range from about $150-300 for the low end stuff....and about $500 for the quality stuff....

You do NOT need a crap load of speakers in your trunk to make it beat up the block. I have a friend who does sound competitions with just one 15" speaker....and he's won a few...

I'd go the headunit route first, and see if that changes anything for you.

I just swaped the stock head unit for the Chrysler 6 disk head unit out of a 2005 Dakota. The sound is much better now, the mirrors do vibrate now. I'll let you know how long the stock speakers hold out. The radio wouln't fit at first, I had to make a dime size notch in the lower left corner of the radio box.
