Default New guy with a couple of questions..

Hello,
I have about 1700 miles on my 2005 SRT4 and finally got around to doing the OCC thing. This morning I drove to work (25 miles) and checked the OCC when I got there. It already had some oil in the bottom, and I never really got into the turbo all that much on the way to work, so I was sort of surprised. I've owned a few turbos:
'84 and '85 Dodge Daytona, '90 Eclipse, '91 Galant VR-4 (Mits), and a '93 RX7 twin turbo (almost cried when I let that one go). My first question is: do these cars blow this much oil out just when they are new, (as the owner's manual says) or will it taper down as it breaks in a little more? The above mentioned cars I had would generally use a little oil if I was running them hard, but not much otherwise.

Secondly, is the Mopar Borla exhaust louder or quieter than the stock setup? Love the sound, but my ears are starting to ring, too much car stereo and industrial noise.[&o]

Lastly, this is a really good forum, thanks to all who make it so.
I will try to post some pics in the Introduce you and your SRT topic soon

Thanks

Jimmy

Hey - welcome, thanks, we try to be helpful, or lately at least funny.

I cried the first time I emptied my OCC, I didn't install mine until around 7K and just couldn't imagine all of the junk that had already gone through.

Not sure about the rest of your questions, my OCC did seem like after awhile I was emptying it less and less as time went on, but that could just be me. !!

And again, welcome!!

These cars will always blow oil by the pcv...If anything it might get worse with age. At least you got the occ on early so you don't have much if any build up.

The mopar/borla catback is slightly louder than stock. If you want quiet you will have to get something with mufflers.

And another thing you should have kept that rx-7 [sm=boohoo.gif]

Until the piston rings fully seat all the way, you should loose more oil than later down the road. With all the boost these cars make, it can take many miles for everything to seat. I also think thats why some owners have said their cars started feeling faster as they got close to 5000 miles. (I felt it to.) I wish I got my OCC on that early. It was about 7K miles for me also.

I had an OCC for awhile, then took it out. Took my intercooler out, and the thing is BONE dry. No idea why. Overtime the once a week emptying of the smaller catch can often prompts people to buy a larger catch can so it can get more oil.

The Mopar/Borla exhaust is louder than stock, even with a cat. Try something like Perrin, or put some mufflers on it to quiet it down a bit if you feel its too loud for you. I drive with a straight 3" exhaust system all day long, doesn't bother me at all, but for some people even the stock exhaust is far too much noise and reverberation.

Cost me $520.00 I have a mandrel bent down pipe with an 02 bung welded in, the rest is crush bent stainless steel with no catalytic converter and no resonators leading out to 4.5 inch tips.

However I'm good friends with the guys, and anyone else they would've charged ALOT more.
