Default Buying SRT4 Need HELP!!

Hey everyone, im new on this forum and im looking for some help. Im not real familar with turbocharged cars. Im looking at a 2004 SRT4, it has 12,900 miles on it, almost brand new. It has a GodSpeed Intercooler, Homemade CAI, Custom Exhaust, MSD Ignition, Greddy Prospec B turbo timer kit, and it has a screen showing the rpms and all that good stuff. But when i looked at the car, it has an oil leak on the top left under the valve cover, unless this is normal for a turbo car?, and the Mass Air Flow, has some kind of wierd resistor soldered onto the MAF wires, is this to help the timing or is it one of those junk things you can buy off ebay? And the check engine light is on, i think it might be from the exhaust or maf. The dealer is asking 19,500 for it, does that sound like a fair price? and he also says that the car is still under the factory warrenty, but does the mods on the car void the warrenty? Thanks for all your help.

edit: it also has a greddy boost control

Im no expert on this car so don't really take what i say in consideration but i got a friend that bought his used '05 stock except for headers for 19000. I always thought that mods bring down the price, especially homemade parts. Also maybe it's the dealership but mine told me that a turbo timer completly voids the warrenty being tied in so much electrically, but like i said take my words with a grain of salt i know that there are much more ppl. on this forum that can give you much more info.

hi Clayton

I'm sure you're just going by what they're telling you, but I'll just give ya a few tips here. First off I've never heard of a 'godspeed' intercooler for the srt-4. I would check to see what it's construction is (bar and plate compared to tube and fin). Is it a direct fit, or is the crashbar removed to fit it? If it's the greddy PROFEC B then it's actually a boost controller in it, and that screen showing rpm's, and TPS (throttle positition sensor) and what not is an add on. Greddy's turbo timer is just called the Greddy auto-timer.

These cars also don't have a mass air flow on them at all. They work on a speed density system. More then likely the box soldered in (if it just goes up to a black box and ends there) it's probably a map clamp. They're used to lean the car out and make more power and keep the pcm from seeing high boost. They work great when installed and tuned correctly, but I would either take it off or double check it myself before I went beating on the car with that on there. They CAN do SERIOUS damage if installed and tuned incorrectly.

Check engine light is easy. Go back up there, and flick the key on-off-on-off-on (you will tell something is happening because the CEL doesn't illuminate on the third time going to 'on'. It will then display the error codes down in the odometer display. P0301, or something like that. If you get that code, we can tell you why it's on and if it's an easy fix or something more serious .

IMHO....if you aren't familiar with turbo car don't jump into a modded one. at 13,000 miles its probably only been driven twice, to hell and back. keep searching for a clean stocker with maint records. good luck.

19,500 is way too much, you can get a new one cheaper than that since they're getting rid of them under invoice now to make room for the Calibers.

Everything Glacius said is 100% true. I'd check to see if theres any other cars around your area before doing that.

Where is the oil leak exactly? Under the valve cover or under the head?

Well hmm...this car doesnt sound like the car i want with all the info you guys are giving me, the dealer is firm on his price. The bumper is all cut up, they cut the lower grill frame thing out and the intercooler is hung by clothes hangers, seriously im not joking. It is definatly a GodSpeed intercooler though. The thing soldered to the wires that goes on the intake right before the throttle body isnt a box..it looks just like this thing resistor This car was rigged and thrown together by some kid, and all the mods are cheaply put on. The rear bumber is hung by clamps and the intake is a vaccum hose..So you guys say the warrenty is voided? Because the dealer is telling me that it still has 100% warrenty. The oil is leaking from the bottom of the vavle cover, i think..i ran my fingers across the back of the vavle cover and most of the oil is from the bolt holding the valve cover on, on the top left side of the valve cover..thanks for all the help

Yea I don't think you want to buy this car. Like Sparkplug said, you can get a new one for about that price, thats how I got mine, that and the dealership bent over backwards to help me pretty much, I got an '05 with 36 miles and the ACR package, pretty much fully loaded for only 20,500

TIME OUT! 19500 is a f ing rip off! if your unfamiliar with a turbo car dont put yourself through the headache of trying to fix someone else's screw job. I just bought an 04 two months ago brand new, i think it had 10 miles on it for 18500, and if the dealer told you it had warranty he is lying to you. it would have warranty if it was stock and you being the second owner would cut the original warrant in half by years and miles. my friend is a salesman at a dodge dealer so i got the scoop on all the warranty and important info on what works and what dont. do yourself a favor look for a stock srt4 with low miles and you can probably get it for 15000. heres a short story for you. this kid i know who knows basically nothing about cars but thinks he knows everything and he came to me and ask about an srt for sale that this 25 year old dude had for sale, it had all these "awsome" mods done to it, anyways i told him not to buy it but him being a dumb a** went and but it anyways. three days later we raced, mine stock his modded, by the end of the quarter i was three car lengths ahead and on the way home his motor blew sky high. the moral is just cause it has aftermarket parts or mods does not make it faster or any better. im not sayin that all srt's with mods are junk but if you want a modded car do it your self thay way you know all whats on there and how the work was done. thats about all i got and plz do yourself a favor and dont be dumb like my know it all friend
