Default First warranty repair

I've never had a problem with my 04 SRT 4. 31,000 miles, original brakes, tires, clutch, minor mods, plenty of "spirited driving". So it came as a surprise to me when my car sputtered and the check engine light came on. I had just bottomed out at 5 mph or less, in one of the numerous holes created by the ongoing road construction in my neighborhood. No way to avoid it (I tried as best I could) just a slight bump. To show my displeasure to the yokel with the orange vest and hard hat holding the "slow sign" and seemingly oblivious to everyone scraping by him-- I spun my tires a little and left him in a massive cloud of dust. Before I could even see him through the haze behind me, my ride sputtered a little, and on comes the check engine light. Nooooooooo! After stopping and making sure no fluids were spilling, no smoke was billowing, and everything looked otherwise intact, I drove to my local 5 star dealer Tom Addis Dodge in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. Left the car for the day. Got a call later on-it was a cam sensor- it would be replaced under warranty. Took a day to get the part and a day to fix. While it was there I had them do the fuel injector service. Picked up my car, they had washed it for me. I asked about warranty work on a stage 2 car. They said they would do it as long as stage 2 didn't cause the problem. My service advisor was cool, he did say they were not a dealer who instantly denied warranty work upon the sight of mods- music to my ears- I will pay a little more for the kit, and a lot for the labor to have them put it in, but its worth it. Just wanted to let everyone know that there are still good dealers out there!

PS.. I am a recent transplant from Southern California (Smog *****), I found out today, there are no smog or emissions tests in Idaho. Worth the move right there. Besides the lack of traffic, beautiful sceneryand truly affordable housing!

As a service manager it is refreshing to hear there are some good dealers out there. Hold on to these guys, they sound like they run a good operation. And if you ever run into a problem, talk to them and ask if they could possible help you out. If I get a customer who comes to me and says, " I EFFED up, is there anyway you can help me"? I'll go to the ends of the earth to try and come up with a resolution for them. Great news, maby a short note to the Service manager thanking him/her for hassle free service would get you a VIP status at that dealer.

Remember, it's all in how you present yourself......depending on the dealer. You must have made a good impression.

BTW, that fuel system cleaner you had them do, it is a new product that Mopar developed with the Wynns oil corperation. It cleans the injector pintles, intake valves AND the combustion chambers. Good stuff, I used it on my Tacoma (50K on it) and I noticed it stopped pinging when fully loaded on the highway after the service.

good news about the dealer...as for the emissions programs, i would bet that there will be a fed program coming down the pipeline soon...you see the standards required for trucks released this past month. been dealing with this in pa for a long time now.

Very, very true.

I've had nothing but good luck with my dealer (despite my mods) on the two occasions I've had to have warranty work done. Like he said, be polite when presenting your problem and give some positive feedback after the work is done. People will respond.

Yeah, treat him nice for sure. I had a cool service manager where I bought mine -- "no problem with mods if they didn't cause the problem" -- and he replaced my whole catback to get my tailpipes properly aligned. Then one day I drove past the dealership and it had a Mitsubishi sign out front. The corporation that owns the place made them switch brands!

Now I'm just hoping to get through the rest of my warranty period w/o having to take it in anywhere.

It was Kingsville Dodge. I don't have a 'safe' place to go now.
