Default SRT-4 alarm

Quoted,

it's been discussed several times about the srt-4 having or not having a car alarm.

And I will confirm with everyone that in fact the srt-4 does have a car alarm(same as in the pt cruiser).

Unfortunately when the car is rolled out of the factory the feature is not activated, for several reasons.

Here are 2 reasons why they don't activate them:

1. If you lose your keys you won't be able to stop the alarm from honking(even if you disconnect your battery)

2. If you loose your keys, you will have to go back to the dealer, get a replacement set of keys(which is not covered under any diamlerChrysler warranty) and get the whole system reseted to the new keys(also not covered under any DiamlerChrysler warranty) This cost around 320 dollars to have done. In other words big $$$

BUT it is available to any srt-4 owner to get this " Feature" activated by the dealer AND SHOULD NOT get charged for it.

If your dealership is charging you or has charged you, I encourage you to dial the customer care line and talk to one of the representatives. And let them know about the situation( 1. Tell them about the reference in the owners manual, page 65, understanding your instrument panel light on panel on page 62, item 12 also on page 65. And 2nd tell them that other owners are aware of the alarm activation). They should contact the dealership immediately and handle the situation for you.

I have talked to the customer rep managers and there should be a memo coming across about this activation issue.

For all diamlerChrysler techs,

Connect tool DB3 to car located inside the car near hood release up and to right 3 inches.( It is a white serial port)

Put DBR3 into "stand Alone 98-04"

Once in "stand Alone 98-04" go to "security"

Once in "security" go to "VTSS"

Once in "VTSS" go to "misc"

Once in "misc" go to "configure"

Once there change "RKE to "VTA"

NOTE: There is a choice in the programming were it will ask you if it's a "PL or "PT" body type. Chose "PL" if you choose "PT"(think pt cruiser) the trunk will pop open when you unlock the doors.

Once the alarm is activated the red light in the dash will flash rapidly for several secconds while the alarm is arming and will flash slowly once armed.

Give the car a hard push down on the front and rear bumper(with alarm armed)to activate the alarm and make sure all componets are working. Also rock from side to side to simulate a jack raising the car.( after alarm has been reseted)

From inside the car with the alarm armed. Pop the hood to activate alarm to make certainit works. With the alarm reseted unlock the trunk to activate the alarmto make certain this feature works.(also do the same with both front doors, have someone in the car exit the rear doors to activate the alarm)

The alarm will arm when all doors are locked from the key flob. After ten minutes the alarm will arm on it's own(with all doors/hood/trunk closed)with out sounding the horn(and locking all doors, if Sentrykey is not present in ignition switch)NOTE: The alarm will arm even if the Sentry Key is present to the ignition computer.(i.e, keys left in ignition with doors closed/will not lock doors)

NOTE: If alarm is activated it over ridesthe Sentry Key Engine Immobilizer Theft-Deterrent feature. The key will not start the vehicle. You must remove the key from the ignition switch, close all doors/hood/trunk. Press and hold down the "unlock" button on the key flob to deactivate the alarm(alarm stand by) to start the vehicle.

NOTE: Alarm will not arm when engine is running. The key must be in the "off" position to use this feature.

got this from my buddy at DC, thought i would pass it alone to the rest of us that do not know about this!
