Default Might get SRT, Reliability???

Hey guys,

Going to college soon and its gonna be a longer commute, so Im looking into something that will get better gas mileage. Currently I have a '99 tacoma.

Honestly I must say that I am partial to imports but the numbers on this car are hard to ignore. One of the big factors I have to consider is reliability and i have no respect for the old neons so i need to know how reliable are these SRT's? I know this is a dodge board so obviously there will be some biased opinions but please tell me as honestly as possible.

The other cars I am looking at are a Scion TC and an Acura RSX type S

Thanks a Ton

im on my second neon based car.....and they have been the best dodge cars ive owned.i have had 5 different dodges.you look like you take care of a vehicle so i dont think you would have a problem........but as im sure you know..... there really isnt one perfect auto maker......all of them have lemon cars too.just hope you dont get one of those......

i also think the Scion and Acura would be really nice and dependable........specially the Acura would be my top pick

i have one and love it. i look forward to driving it everyday, also my brother owns a scion tc release series. both are great cars. the scion is roomy, but not as fun to drive as the srt.

I posted in your other thread Ill post the same thing here as well to get others opinions and agreements/disagreements with my opinion. Sometimes what another person says reminds you of an experience you had with the car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you want gas mileage get the TC.

If you want styling, slightly more power and slightly better gas mileage get the RSX

If you want a car thats gonna kick you in the face everytime you drive it, and kick you in the wallet for gas, because staying out of boost is near impossible, then get the SRT.

Think of insurance costs as well, this isnt just for the gas mileage. The SRT has the highest insurance rate out of all three of those cars.

Driving long distances in an SRT-4 all the time with Viper seats can get pretty uncomfortable even if your a small person. The exhaust drones, etc. Its an incredible car, I absolutely love it, but for what your looking for, it might not be for you. The gas mileage isnt the greatest, though it does improve until around 10-15,000 miles. But as a commuter car, I've known quite a few people who traded them in after awhile because commuting in an SRT-4 for long distances just isnt what its designed for.

Reliability? 50k on the clock still goin strong with minor problems here and there which I just figured out the brunt of, and its not DCX's fault. (Faulty shop)

IMO

I had a 2004 Neon SXT before I got the SRT-4 and I hated it. The SRT4 feels like a completely different car. I never had problems with either one. I actually traded the SXT in for a 2004 Tacoma TRD edition. I have an Airraid intake and exhaust on it. My GF seems to think she gets better gas milage in the Tacoma as opposed to the SRT4, which might be true because as LSP said, it is nearly impossible to stay off the gas pedal. The power is there, so you want to use it. As far as commuting, I love the Viper seats. Maybe I'm shaped weird. The noise and everything else improves commuting in my opinion because it keeps me from getting bored. Another plus is having the ability to get to Portland, OR from Seattle, WA in 3 hours or under!

p.s - You're Tacoma is bad ***! Makes mine look weak! I might have to divert some funds from the SRT4 to the Tacoma now! lol..... probably not gonna happen though

Well I've owned all Honda products before this, a 94 Acura Legend, a 97 Honda Accord, a 02 Honda Civic, and a 04 RSX.

The SRT is the hardest to drive out of all of them, but other than a few MINOR problems, I love mine, I drive 45 minutes to work every morning and it's ok. I average about 20-23 mpg on Gas Mileage, which yes is the lowest out of all of them, but would be better than the truck. The only reason I had to RSX for a short period of time is it was totalled when some moron forgot there is a TURN in my neighborhood and smashed into it and totalled it. I liked it, but I definately like the SRT better.

All in all, if all you want is gas mileage, srt is not for you. If you want moderate gm and something fun to drive then its for you!!!!

Well I'm guessing that your going to be buying a used one right? Can't find them new anymore. Being reliable, depends on how bad the previous owner beat on it I suppose. Find a Chrysler Certified if you can, at least you'll have a warranty, and rental assistance if so needed.
