Default Problems with the SRT 4

I am considering getting a SRT 4, but i was told that the engines go bad in a few years due to the stress put on the motor and that the tranny goes out pretty easily. Is this true? Are there other problems that occur with this car? ALso i plan on getting a boost controller for the car, what would the highest psi i could run on the car safely? All inputs would be appreciated.

Other cars i am considering S2000,Mustang Bullitt, Camaro SS.

ok man let me tell what i just know.1 my friend robert has had his for 3 years and he gives it hell.He has a fmic, intake, bov, hardpipes, ebc, turboback and some more ****.and he has only had one problem and it was the flyweel. The bolts on the fw came off LOL.this is kind of funny, mine did the same thing at 7,000 miles and his had like 28,000 i cant remember.I thought it was so funny that the same thing happend to me.I have had that problem and my 3rd gear went out but they fix it for nothing and i have the same mods.2 it really depends on how you take care of your car if you do **** to it and give it hell every day it most likley is going to have a few problems or none at all.I have 25,000 on my motor and my friend now has 49,000 and still no prblems. But that is also low miles in my book.and your last ? for the boost is,If should not run more than 15-16-psi to redline on the stock fuel system. If you do so you might be running a little lean LOL.On the other hand one of my other friends is holding 18-19-psi to redline because he has the fuel mods to go with it.And if you plan on just running a EBC you still wont hold thAT MUCH TO RED LINE WITH IT BECAUSE of the stock WG.I might be wrong but how i did it and somw other guys i know, they got the wga and that allows you to hold more boost to redline. The EBc just allows you to control it from the push of a botton.meaning like low or high boost.I reaLLT DONT think you will just need the EBC but i might be wrong. All i can say is get want you like man.Every car is goign to have problems.Good luck.

my clutch is starting to slip at 15,000.. only when i do burnouts from 1st to 3rd though.. normal driving i have no problems other then the annoying wheel hop and traction problems these cars have.. i just ordered 215 tires so i will find out soon if that helps at all..

they're a lot of fun to drive.. fast and one of the best parts of owning one in my opinion is when my 4 banger beats up on american muscle cars

I always do this, and I'll do it again... Let me guess who told you that... People that have never owned a SRT-4, right?

If you drive ANY CAR like you stole it, it's going to break down sooner than if you treat it more carefully. Regular maintenance will extend the life, obviously. Just don't expect to run a drag race at every red light and see 100,000 miles before you're talking serious repairs......
