Default modding 102

Hmmm. I have a needswing downpipe installed on my car. I also have a McCord power plate, but it hasn't been installed on my car. I called up my old friend Mike yesterday to see if we (he) could help me to put that thing on.

I arrive there and here is the initial conversation:

Word: Here's the power plate, Mike. It come with no instructions, but is this something that you can do?

Mike: Yeah, it doesn't look too difficult. It shouldn't take too long.

(five hours pass)

Word: Well, at least it's on, and maybe you can get it working when you have more time to get further into it.

The install:

The power plate itselt went on relatively easy. We ran the wire under he heatshield. We didn't know where to run the wire up through the transimission. Sooooo,,,,,he didn't really want to drill a hole, because he said that water could get in and cause damage. We (he) decided to use this other spot to run the wire through.

In front of the shifter, there is this plate that has three nuts on it, that is kind of rubbery looking. We took those nuts off and run the cord through it. We tested the power plate, before installing the switch and all and it worked-----for a minute. Why only a minute? Blew a fuse. He takes some wire and wraps around the fuse and makes the fuse work again (pretty neat trick, I must say) Anyhow, the power plate starts working again------for a minute. Why only a minute, again? Because then I blew another fuse. After searching around for it, I found out it was the airbag fuse.

Hmmm.......he knows there must be a problem somewhere. Guess where it was? When the cord went through the 3 nut thing that is in front of the shifter, there is a sharp lip that cut into the wires and he said that it caused it to blow the fuses. He fixes the wires and we try again. It seems like it is going to work.

We (he) drills out places in the console and mouts the little switch and LED. We are getting close to the finish now. He has this little tool that he uses that checks voltage, and right behind the shifter, there is this harness looking thing that he plugs the power to the switch into. it reads out 12 volts, so it should work. We try out the McCord power plate and guess what? The car quits running. It dies.

He then unhooks the power thing out of the harness and the car starts back up. It runs fine. For some reason, running power into the harness behind the shifter, he says, kills the fuel pump or something. He said the fuel pump doesn't run when the power is put to that harness. Great.

Soooo,,,we unhooked the power to the switch and are leaving it till next week, so as to try something else. My car had the check engine light on after that, but unhooking the battery and reconnecting it stopped that. My airbag light is on, because of the blown fuse, I hope.

LONG NIGHT.

Modding.....it truly is an experiement in terror.
