Turbo Timer
<FONT face="Courier New, Courier, mono" color=blue size=4>the main reason you want a turbo timer is taht it will greatly increase the life of your turbo, it allows the vehicle to run for a set amount of timeafter you shut it off to allow the turbo to get rid of the built up gases that over time greatly reduce turbo life. If your easily frustrated with installs dont try this at home! here this is the one i have its one of the best on the market http://www.turboneonstore.com/turbo_timer.htmits the one at the top of the page</FONT> <edited><editID>thestereogod</editID><editDate>37955.1835763889</editDate></edited>

If installs are a problem for you, you can get the same effect by letting the car idle till the cooling fan kicks on then wait for it to kick off, then shut the car off. At this point the engine and turbo are as cool as they can get. Most turbos don't need this because they are intercooled, but you should still let it cool down when you get off the freeway before shuting it off. Always use synthetic oil to keep from coking the oil(burning the oil to ash, roughly), it's also turbo insurance.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>71ROADRUNNER</editID><editDate>37956.0369097222</editDate></edited>

Turbo Timer
ive had several friends have their turbos die after about 25k 0r 35k miles because they would get dont driving, come to a stop , and jsut jump out of the car. Some of them would be stupid and rev it up a few times and then just shut it off. A TT is cheap turbo insurance. The only downside it you ahve to leave your car in nuetral when you park.

I have a greddy turbo timer myself. Basically, when you are running your car hard the turbo heats up way more than the engine. If you jump out of the car when your turbo is at a high temp, you will shorten the life of the turbo. I have mine set to idle for 40 seconds after I get out of the vehicle.</P>
There are a few minor downfalls I've encountered - First, you have to leave your car in neutral when you get out. Also, some Dodge technicians, believe it or not, are really dumb and don't know what it is. So when you bring your car to the shop, make sure they write on the RO that the "car will stay on after key is removed" - to prevent your car from crashing into a workbench.</P>
Not the easiest thing to install. Get it professionally done IMO.</P>

Or just put the money into other mods and take an extra minute out of your day to let it idle to cool off for free. My '88 Daytona Shelby Z had 200,000+ miles on it before needing the turbo replaced, it only takes common sense and 1 minute, thats all. Don't get me wrong though, I think turbo timers are a good idea, but if your driving a car with a manual trans(all SRT-4's) and you forget or let someone else use it or get it worked on(as mentioned above) the result could be much more costly.<img border="0" src=smileys/smiley19.gif border="0">
