Default Finally Installed Gauges

After having the gauges for a couple years, two of which I had in my R/T before I got the SRT-4, I finally got off my rear and installed them. I have the AutoMeter Pro Comp Ultra Lite volt, oil pressure and EGT gauges, but now I need to wire their lights positive wire into the boost gauges wire since the way I had it done in the R/T isn't working the same on the SRT-4. I had it in the "inst illum pk lmps" fuse on the R/T and the gauge lights came on with the factory gauges and even dimmed with them, but for some reason it doesn't work the same on the SRT-4, instead it illuminates as soon as the connection is made so the fuse is constantly hot unlike the R/T's which wasn't. So for now they are wired to the fog lamp fuse, but I won't be happy until they light with the other gauges and dim with them as well.

Here's a couple pics of them from my cell phone:

Looking good. If I could buy any three guages, those would definitely be them. ESPCIALLY the EGT gauge.

Sweet! I really like the truck in the back ground! Looks kinda like one my dad used to have, you know the kind, five different colors.

That is at work and is the guy that works with me's truck, it's a late 70's F-350 with a 400 and manual trans.

I cannot believe that the Dodge performance cars don't even get the bare minimum in what is needed like a volt and oil gauge, they use idiot lights that don't come on until it's far too late. I actually wanted a dual air temp gauge to monitor the intake air temp before and after the intercooler to see it's effectiveness and an A/F ratio gauge, but I can always add them later next to the boost gauge. I've got to wait until I can get the 3" turbo to Mopar/Borla cat back kit to mount the EGT probe. Does anyone know where to wire the light + to to have it function with the dash lights and dimmer properly?

when i hooked up the turbo toys, they had me wire into the orange wire on the back of the hvac to the lights on the toys. it works so that's where i also wired in my oil pressure gauge and a/f ratio gauge. just take off the center bezel, take out the two screws holding the controls in, unhook the harness on back of the controls, solder into the orange wire. it's not that difficult to get the wire back there, but it's easier if you also take off the cover under the steering column. you could trace the wire back to an easier location(maybe under the column or in the fuse box, but it's not that much trouble to put it by the controls.

I'll get it done the way I want, but I will wait until I get the oil pressure and EGT sending units in place. The oil pressure sending unit should be alot easier if I swing the STB out of the way, but the EGT has to wait until I get the 3" turbo to Mopar cat-back exhaust to mount it. I have thought about using the EGT's probe under the hood in the mean time to monitor underhood temperatures, at least this way it could be of some functional use. I cannot stand having functionless gauges, I've had that problem in the '88 Daytona Shelby Z I had and I have that problem in my RR with the fuel gauge that has only worked about 4 times in the 13 years I've had it.

The ultimate Po-dunk Ford:

I saw that comment about the truck and remembered i took this picture a few months back...and started laughing. Not to hi-jack RR, I sorry.

Back to your regularly scheduled discussions....

And I completely agree about the idiot lights...I mean wtf, a voltmeter isnt that hard to incorportate, neither are 3/4 of the other things that should've come with them. They should've molded the viper gauges in our car, the way they're setup in the SRT-10s. At least we'd know whats going on half the time.

****...GMCs all have voltmeters and oil pressure gauges.

I've seen that done before, sadly more than once.

i hate idiot lights, i agree the srt could use a few more gauges. however aftermarkets can be far more accurate than factory moron gauges... like for temp that says "hot" and "cold" instead any remote hint of an actual number.

and the pickup-truck-bed-trailor... i have seen many. great cheap way to build a trailor. its redneck but it works.
