I was thinking about getting an SRT4 as a step up from my MazdaSpeed Protege. My MSP is pretty built up from where it started from, 240~250whp but I know the SRT4 has a lot more potential. I heard that the stock rating of 230hp is actually at the wheels? Is this really true or was the kid I was talking to just trying to talk up his car?

 

Yes. Dodge under rated the hp for the SRT-4 from factory.

 

yup, dyno results have been anywhere from 230 and i have heard rumor of up to 245 at the wheels for a stock SRT. dodge underrated the motor, most likely to lower the cost-to-own. look at the cali srt, 300hp from the same motor. btw, anyone know what the major difference is between the two models that allegedly yeilds 70 more hp?
