member class?

member class?
I was curious, are the member classifications automatic(maybe based on post #'s) or are they assigned, or can I pick one diffferent than the one under my name?
Example: "Student Driver", "truch series racer", "street racer"
I think of myself as a street racer, not a student driver - many cars and miles of punishment in all over the years. But if it's based on time on the site than I get it. I've only been on since june.
Anyone?
