finally put on my stage 2 wastegate !
stage 2 wastegate with anything else? do you have stage 1 ecu? do you have a mapclamp, 19 psi is still to high for stage 1 since after 17 you will start to pull timing.
Its allways fun to add another mod, enjoy it for awhile and add something else later, im still enjoying my kinetic wastegate and its only set at 15 hold 13, but i bypassed pcm controlled boost so i see 15 in every gear, car pulls damn hard!!!

what can you use instead of a clamp? i want to use a mapclamp but is there another way? I have stage 1 with the kinetic wastegate I want to spike 19 hold 15-16, do i need a SAFC, wideband, and some dyno tuning? does the SAFC trick the comp that its only seeing 14-15psi when its actually making 19? i know you need the wideband so you can monitor yor air fuel ratios and you need to the tune the beast so your geting your fuel still.
thanks

most fuel controllers act as a map clamp and have the extra benefit of allowing you to tune. all a map clamp does is clamp, you can't do anything else. most fc's are pretty easy to use and install, and many can be found used. i like the dtec (which is what i'm using), but for a mostly stock/minor bolt on car a safc isn't a bad choice and you can get them used for fairly cheap.
but DEFINETLY get a wideband. whenever you start adjusting boost levels a wideband is a must. you don't have to dyno tune, you can just street tune.

it's easiest with two people in the car, but you can do it by yourself. basically you do 3rd gear pulls (do a few 2500-4k runs, then bring it to redline once that area is set) and log the fuel cycles on the fc and watch your a/fs on the wideband. if you have a unit that can log both that's even better. from there you just pull fuel based on how rich you're running. if it's in the 10's then pull a percent or two and do another run. it takes some time but you can get most of the curve in the 11.5-12.0 range and you're good. on a dyno you get a nice graph so you know where exactly in the rpm range you need to pull from rather than doing global pulls, but street tuning still gets the job done.
my base map for pump gas is a street tune but my race gas map was dyno tuned.

so with a dtec or any SAFC when i want to spike 19hold 15 I wont be pulling timing because the dtec will be taking care of that? im just confused because everyone says that the mapclamp will tell the comp what your boosting when your really boosting higher then that. So how does the dtec do that? do i still need a map clamp then even if i do have the dtec?

also i was told that a SAFC will pull away fuel at a given rpm point(by removing a %), therefore thats why you need a mapclamp to be set at the right voltage, which i was told to us at (4.2-4.4v) and then i could fine tune the right amount of the fueling with the SAFC.
man this is complicated, all in a days learning

map clamps do nothing to allow you to adjust for timing, so get that out of your head. all that a map clamp does is fool the ecu into thinking that you're running lower boost than what you really are, and as such the ecu then will theoretically run more timing. the reality is that the difference in timing isn't enough to warrant the risks that you take by installing a map clamp (which include blowing your motor if something goes wrong like blowing a line as the ecu won't go into limp mode to save itself because it hasn't a clue that there's anything wrong).
safc's work by pulling certain percentages of fuel at a given rpm. but they also technically act as a map clamp because they block off the ecu's control over the fuel reference to allow you to change fuel rates. this also will change your timing.
but remember, there's no way to adjust timing on these cars other than going with a full standalone. the difference that a map clamp makes is minimal, and not worth the risk imo. there are other, safer ways of making power while keeping the safety measures in place. you don't see 400 and 500 hp cars running map clamps for a reason.

ok i understand it all now, no map clamp FTW!!!!
anyways I am going to save up and go the right way, I really appreciate your help PSI chick, sorry for the thread hijack!!!
