Default First wreck at the 1320

I had my witness to an acciedent cherry popped on Friday. A buddy that I usually race with hit the wall hard and totalled out his 01 Mustang GT...with his girl friend in the passenger seat. Neither were hurt but the car will probably won't be repairable. I feel bad for him, but I couldn't believe that he was running last night with a plugged tire! I warned him that he think twice before hitting the strip, but he was driving fast on the hwy and believed it would hold. I'm not sure what cause the crash, but he was fishtailing in 2nd and was being turned around right after his 2-3 shift. No pictures or video as of now, but I know someone who caught it on camera. If the quality is good, I'll post it and see what you all have to say. Damage from my visual inspection...front bumper completely ripped off, both front fenders gone, radiator toast, hood is bent up, rear passenger tail light broke, rear bumper cracked, rear passenger side rim is broken (plugged tire), front passenger side rim is bent. and both air bags deployed. I think they hit the wall at 60-70 mph, but I can't remember.

The conditions were not great either. It was 55-60F at night with next to no grip after the sun went down. My 60' times dropped by .2 after 8:30. However, before the sun dropped (65-70F), I did post my first 14.2 so the track was good during the last hour of daylight.

Have any of you watched a buddy destroy their car on a track?

I've seen a few blown engines/trannys and resulting fires, but no one hit the wall...........knock on wood.

Same here, engines blow and axles break...but never someone nailing the wall halfway through.

i have seen a new civic SI take out a 'break-away' runway light at an autocross event. well, the lights do break away. however, the cement base and bottom portion do not. it looked pretty fugly. but never seen anyone total a car at any kind of event, only stuff breaking. if i recall right it was the same day i got chased down by a firebird t/a, i think its the fastest i have ever ran in my life, seeing a t/a coming at me sideways doing about 50mph

sat. night i saw a hot street camaro lose it. He had a competition bye because the other car broke, so i guess this guy still decides to go all out. He gets squirly around 1/8 mile and spins out off to the side into the grass. This could have been a lot worse. It's only a 1000ft track and hot street was only running the 1/8, but at 135mph and then u lose it, ur car is usually toast but this guy got lucky and raced the next round.
