I have noticed that only sometimes when I shift hard from 2nd to 3rd....I have really bad wheel spin....and when I am spinning I shift....but sometimes I go to 3rd and when I let out on the clutch it acts like it didn't go in gear...it only revs like I am in neutral.....it only does it from 2nd to 3rd and only sometimes...when wheels are spinning....never when wheels aren't spinning...and never when I am just driving normal and not racing....I think that it may be clutch but I am not sure...HELP

 

there is a fairly common problem with the tranny, especially 3rd, with it not liking to shift correctly. perhaps its the synchros???


on a side note: the bushings are rather soft, so upgrading to boogerbushings ($20) couldnt hurt any. also, how many miles are on since last tranny fluid change?

 

what would I have to do to change the bushings.....and I don't think that the transaxle fluid has ever been changed to my knowledge but it may have been changed as many times as my car has been in the shop....and I have 21K miles....I will definately change the fluid....but why would it do that? Has anyone else had this problem...

 

i know others have shared this problem. when my buddies ZX2 had this type of issue, and when my 01 was having tranny issues with going into and styaing in gear, it turned out to be the synchronizers were fried and in his case, 1st2nd and 3rd gears needed replaced. in my case, they replaced the tranny alltogether.

 

Well it only does it sometimes and only in 3rd gear...I honestly can't afford to replace or rebuild the tranny...I don't have warranty...I think that you have probably read about all of that...the "tone ring" issue....to remind you...so I really hope that isn't it...would I be able to run a diagnostic on it would that tell me the problem

 

perhaps, but its probalby not going to code anything too helpful. if its a problem with synchros or gears themselves then its probably going to get progressivly worse until you have no 3rd gear. so it may come down to a little money now or a lot more later. but hopefully its something simple that wont cost an arm and a leg to fix.

 

Your symptoms are common, first ,try changing your trans fluid. w/ some Amsoil or Royal purple ATF fluid, if that dont cure your prob., then you can look at syncros.........the manuf. states 18k intervals for trans. fluid changes.________5TOEZ__________
