Mopar S3 Coilovers & "Shipping Washer"
Installed the S3 kit last weekend and must say, I love it. Only compaint I have so far is that the rear shocks have a 'rattle' noise when going over bumps, or when you have the trunk open, and just push down on the trunk hard a few times to simulate going over bumps. Does anyone else have this problem, or heard of this problem?
Well, to answer your questions, and give a 'lil more info. 1: No, i did not remove the factory stop rings. 2: The car is currently at it's lowest possible setting, with the factory stop rings intact, 3: only adjustments were the factory recommended, tighten the dampner allen all the way, then 1½ turns counter-clockwise. Other than that, no other mods have been performed.
JD (Old #7?) - These are some quotes from other people with the same problem as you from other forums. Let me know if you need to know more. Good luck.
"I have the clunk as well. I *think* it has to do with where the rear strut attaches to the car. Is it called a "perch"? Anyways, I'm bad with terms but the Mopar stage 3 guys noticed this first when they installed the CO's. Mopar/DCX is aware of it and they are working with K&W to make a replacement piece. You WILL hear the clunk no matter what suspention you have in the car, EVEN STOCK. The replacement piece will be made available through Mopar and it will be out in the spring of 2004."
"the clunk is from dcx puting crappy upper strut mounts on the rear of the car,you should here it when you install the mopar coilovers. you can fill your mounts with window 3m repair kit like i did & noise is gone..."
It's the spring perch/strut mount itself flexing. Some have gotten rid of the noise by putting window sealer or some other spacer between the mount and the strut tower itself to stop the flexing and clunking.

Wheat: Thanks a lot for yer input, I'm probably going to head up to my buddies shop this week. I'll make mention of this and see what he says. We were just going to install a washer or two, or make a rubber gasket to fill the void left over. Only thing I see odd in that quote is "You WILL hear the clunk no matter what suspention you have in the car, EVEN STOCK" I don't recall hearing it in my friends, or remember hearing it mine. ahh well. like I said, thanks again for the input, and I'll let ya'll know what we end up doing, and how it works out...
