Just bought an IPP CAI
So I bought an IPP CAI from a guy on the SRTForums. Can't wait to get it because it is suppose to be a good intake. I was reading more on it and I guess IPP is having a recall on the product. Not sure what the problem was with the intake. It sounds like they are replacing the upper pipe that connects from the turbo to mid section and they are throwing in silicone couplers instead of rubber. I guess the rubber ones rip. I am not sure what the improvement is but I was reading a little and it sounds like they might now allow 2nd owners of the intake to send it back for a replacement. So now I am a little upset I bought the intake if I am going to run into problems. Does anyone else have this intake and have any problems with it. I guess the only 2 problems I know of is the rubber coupler and the intake rubbing on the coolant hose. I could always order a new coupler from someplace else, that is not a problem. And I am planning to extend the coolant hose to fix that problem. I just hope there is no major design of the pipe that fixes something else I don't know about.
i have the ipp cai. the rubbing on the coolant line can be a major issue. you have to bend the coolant line away from the intake, and it still rubs. i've had to replace my coolant line at least 4 times now, and the last time i went with a hydraulic line that has bradded steel inside of it and is rated to 1000psi. it's kind of overkill, but i haven't had to change it since. my problems seem to be more extreme than some other people's, this is just because each car is a little different, and some people don't have issues with the line rubbing while others have serious issues. you have to install it and see. i haven't had a problem with the coupler cracking, i've had my intake about 7 months and it's still looking good. i do know one person however that has had their intake only about a month and they have a crack in theirs. again, it depends.
Why on earth would you go through the trouble, time and money to replace that same line 4 times because of a CAI? I would have taken that POS CAI off and sold it and bought another brand CAI that I don't have to worry about.
This is however a perfect example for those that are worried about mods voiding their warranties. There are no mods that can void the factory warranty by itself, but if a mod is found to be the cause of a factory parts failure (as is the case here), then the repair and the parts and labor involved are not covered by the factory warrant. Because the CAI rubbed a hole in the coolant line, she is 100% financially responsible for it and is not covered by the factory warranty. Now if a coolant line were not near the CAI and it ruptured, then it is covered by the factory warranty since the CAI is not involved and they couldn't prove that the CAI was the cause of it.
