That's right, practice makes perfect.
I also recommend that you ask around to see what tracks the races do and do not like and why, this can have a big difference in your track times. I've been to a slow crap track and I sucked launching it, not good, but I will hopefully be going to a well known good and fast track later this year to get in a few good runs that I should have.
