Default upgrading 318 engine

New to this forum. Hope I am posting this question properly. I have a 74 dart with all factory equiped 318 with 2bbl carb and single exhaust. Wondering if anyone can advise on upgrading engine to get better fuel economy. Considered a 4bbl carb, dual exhaust with turbo mufflers, maybe new headers, and different fan on clutch drive. Anyone with professional advice very welcome to reply. Thanks.

Hey, Welcome to DF!

you might want to post this up in the dar, demon, duster section. You'll find more help there.

What kind of mileage are you getting and where are you hoping it to be? I had a 74 Dart, 318, 3 spd auto and I got 18-20 around town and about 21-22 on the highway, if I kept it under 65 mph. Now that was reasonable and safe driving. If I was impressing girls (yeah, in the uncoolest car ever), I would get 10-12 in the city and maybe 16-18 on the highway. A slant 6 doesn't do any better, so there's really not much you can do if your mileage is near what mine was.

Dang, I forgot to add the Dart to the "How many cars have you owned" thread.
