SOHC Gen2 Crate Motors
I have a 2000 Neon that I enjoy quite a bit. My friends think me insane to appreciate a car that I bought used and was a rental before I bought it but I have been impressed with not just the performance of this little beauty but the economy. Yep I love my Neon because it gets GREAT mileage. Yes it is great to put the pedal down and see the speedo go above 100 but I really appreciate the ability to drive to and from work daily, about 50 miles a day, and get 32 to 37 mpg! No I am not lying nor is this little Dodge anything but strictly stock. I have never done anything except change the oil and a year ago changed the Cam positioning sensor, but since I bought it I have gotten 32 MPG minimum and the record for my car is 37.9 MPG. I drive it everywhere and it performs like my little Jag 180 did in 1968, actually I think my Neon would out corner my Jag, my Healey and even my 68 Porsche 912. This little gem has been much more than the $7k that it cost me. HOWEVER, I am a bit concerned as the engine has close to 200k on it and I would like to get a replacement engine and transmission for it but I want to replace it with exactly the same engine and transmission it has in it. Sure I would like to bark the tires some times but I can't afford much and I really would rather keep my mileage and performance the way it is, maybe a bit cleaner the way it was when it was new. I have absolutely no complaints about this car.
I do remember a few years ago that my Dodge dealer had a sign in the parts department that they offered new replacement engines for this car but I have never been able to get a straight answer from the dealer and I have never been able to find out about the offer that was in the dealership.
Does anyone know or can anyone tell me if there are crate 2.0L SOHC engines out there? Not rebuilt but new? I can find a builder that will do my engine and probably do it very well but I would rather find a new one.
