So, I currently own a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 LB SRW Magnum V10 that I bought from a private party. He let it sit around for 6-7 years, about half of those years inside a garage. It had a whopping 26000 miles on the odometer; it looks like new. It's completely stock. It has overload springs and an anti-swaybar.
I replaced the tires (cracked and dried out) even though they had 3/4 tread left on them. Also the headlight switch was broken, the serpentine belt had a few small cracks, one of the inside dome light switches was damaged, and a couple of burned out bulbs.
The guy I bought it from had towed a 5th wheel and a boat to Lake Powell twice a year for the first 2 years, then when his wife became ill, just sold the trailer and boat, and parked the truck. He told me it would out-pull his son-in-law's diesel (same truck, same year) over the mountain passes, but it couldn't pass a gas station. Wow, I know that! I'm lucky if it gets 1 mile/gallon/cylinder.
I want to put a 9-10 ft truck camper on it and tow my Jeep on a car hauler behind it, but I sure would like to know if it can handle the weight. If anyone has that experience with a similar truck, please let me know.
I'm guessing the camper is about 2500 lbs wet, and the Jeep/trailer around 6000 lbs.
