Default Lorrie Van Haul - 1967 Dodge Mail Van

Hey All,
My name is JC Allison, I am seventy years old, and live in the Deep East Texas Pineywood Forest, and it is one of my pleasures in life to be the care-taker of Lorrie Van Haul, a very rare 1967 Dodge Mail Van.

Some time ago I did a Google search, and found only one reference to, and a JPG of an almost identical vehicle, and it said that this model was "thought to be extinct"! But I have one.

Lorrie came into my possession in Houston, Texas in 1974 when the Post Office there sold off all their vehicles that didn't have emission controls on them. I paid $700.00 for her, and in the years we have been together, I have kind of "resto-moded" her.

In the intervening years, Lorrie and I have traveled the Great SouthWest of the United States from Eugene, Oregon to New Orleans, Louisiana and everywhere in between. Lorrie was the equipment truck for the AllisonWonderland Concert Lightshow from the middle '70s to the late '80s.

Due to circumstances that included a catastrophic murdercycle crash, and the onset of a terminal liver disease, Lorrie has been dormant since 1995. And in the past year, I have begun to awaken her. Have rebuilt her Holley Carburetor, installed a new Water Pump, installed a new Fuel Pump, am now working on removing the Master Brake Cylinder, and will be rebuilding it, along with the four Slave Cylinders.

Lorrie has a full set of Stewart Warner Gauges, a set of Military Specification Switches, a Sheep's Wool covered Suburu Reclining Seat, custom Diamond Deck-Plate Bumpers, a 14 gauge Sheet Metal Roof, different Front Turn Signals, and different Tail Light Assemblies.

She is slated for new "stock" wheels, and new tires, and has a new battery.

For pictures of Lorrie as she sits today (in somewhat forlorn condition) at the beginning of the third renovation that I've done with her, click here:

Her Warranty Tag is not in very good shape, but the "stamped" numbers are readable (some of them from the back), though "what" some of the numbers represent cannot be read on the front of the warranty tag.

What I would like to do is to list them in the same order as they appear on the Warranty Plate, and maybe have someone who is versed in "Dodgespeak" interpret them for me.

The top line is thus:

2861828409 97196621 7500 P200

The second line is thus:

3000 39 CHRY RA36 225

The third line is thus:

2700 3AUTO CHRY A727

And the fourth line is thus:

127 3900 1300 104

Lorries 225 Slant Six engine was rebuilt in 1986, and presently has about 29,000 miles on it.

She is a wonderful old vehicle, and deserves better treatment than she has gotten in the past fourteen years, and I am just now getting to the point where I can spend the time taking better care of her.

I also have another extremely rare vehicle of which I have just about finished doing a renovation. It Ms. American 3.14159, the ONLY 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, 4-Door, Hard-Top, Fastback, Police Interceptor that Google finds on the whole World Wide Web.

I'm a regular poster to the FordMuscle Forum, and we have looked for another one like Ms. American, and so far, it appears that she is the only surviving example, if NOT the ONLY one EVER built.

For JPGs of THIS fine lady, click here:

http://msamericanpi.bravehost.com/galaxca.htm
http://msamericanpi.bravehost.com/galaxen.htm
http://msamericanpi.bravehost.com/galaxre.htm

These are two year old webpages, and in the intervening years, Ms. American has been almost totally transformed, needing only Headliner, Seat Covers, and Trunk Details to put her back into original condition. She is NOT "restored", but rather "refurbished". I have put new parts on her only where the old parts were either totally unusable, or missing.

Anyway, I look forward to being able to ask questions about Lorrie as work on her continues apace.

Hope this finds you all doing well.

JC

Hey Mr MR,
Thanks.

I'm in the process of getting Lorrie Van Haul's Brake System back to being functional.

Have run into a problem with getting the Piston/s out of the Master Cylinder Body. Would like to get them to come out instead of just replacing the unit as the Master Cylinder that has just been removed is the ORIGINAL unit.

I rebuilt the Brake System in 1986, and made the mistake of using Silicone Brake Fluid. I'm afraid that the Pistons are corroded in the Cylinder Bore.

The Piston is STUCK in a depressed position, and I've got it soaking in AeroKroil.

I was thinking about either taking it to a Brake Shop, and seeing if they had a means by which to remove the Piston, or maybe getting an EasyOut of the proper size (if there even IS such an animal), or maybe getting a tap and cutting some threads in the Push Rod Hole of the Piston, and threading a bolt in and pulling the Piston out THAT way.

Any suggestions?

BTW, the Dodge Trucks with the swing UP doors are REALLY spiffy.

Anyway thanks for the welcome.
