Default Excuse me I'm new

I have a amber check engine lite come on from time to time. I just filled it up the other day and now it has gone away. Is it sensitive about the gas I am using?? It is a Ram 1500 '98

Hello and welcome to DF..

The check engine light can come on after fill up because the gas cap wasn't put on tight enough. Make sure you get the "clicks" after each fill up to ensure it's tight. I believe once the check light comes on you have to drive anywhere from 50 to 100 miles to clear the problem. Keep making sure the cap is tight and if it comes on again, or the truck is not running right, bring it in to get the computer read.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know about the gas cap "click" thing. I also didn't know about the driving a 100mls to get rid of it.........thanks again, Tim

Welcome to the site. The emisions law requires the gas cap to be monitored so vapor isn't lost.
