MOPAR Newbie 1G/Durango 2WD/5.2L
Hey Dodge Forum!!! I'm a lurker and not new to automotive forums but totally new to MOPAR and new to American muscle in general. I have a strong history of modding cars with a background in riced out 12 second street Honda, overboosted 11 second street DSM. We welcome our very well cared for 1999 Dodge Durango 2wd 5.2L. It was purchased new and has been in the family ever since.
I am so newb that I am not certain of its trim level but it has leather/suede seats, tow package, tranny cooler, power seats, wheel controls and everything but the wheel-well arches.
We love it and it has had every factory maintenance done on it. To date all work was done at a stealership but now that it is in my hands things will change.
We need a dedicated tow vehicle and the poor little 318 is not up to the task with our 3.55 rear end (with lsd). I tried to explain to the wife that the gearing was FINE and that we just needed to drop a 440 in but she was not having it. I am currently considering a 03-04 rear end upgrade for disk brakes and 4.11 (4.10?) or 4.56 gears. The site has been very helpful with links!!!
Also considering BilsteinHD, Energy Bushings and maybe a 1" drop/spindles or even (gasp) bagging it. Extra special thanks to everyone who has posted walkthoughs, how to and reviews. I've been lurking and learning from you.
Flame away!
