Default New to cars, new to caring

So I'm one of those people that never cared about his car. So long as it ran, it worked. Sure it leaked oil and I had to take the dome light out because my car thought the door wasn't closed, but it got me where I needed to go. Recently I've decided to start taking care of my car, (which by the way is a 2000 Neon) looking at things that need fixing and working on getting them fixed, and that's why I'm here. I don't know a lot about cars, I can change my oil, battery, or a tire, but once you get down to the big things like an alternator, transmission, or even breaks, I'm lost.
