Plastigage
Been awhile since i have used this (plastigage). the 318 i bought is only 5 yrs old (has a jasper number on it) and is very clean insde, good color to piston and valve heads, so do i start with the existing bearing and crank re-gage for clearance or re-measure crank for wear and go that route?(have factory spec.)?

Wow Iggy07 - didn't know what a plastigage was so I looked it up (for other's that don't know)...Plastigage is a small plastic string that is used to measure a very tight clearance between two engine half circle metal bearings that enclose a spinning circular crankshaft, camshaft or piston tie rod end.
Plastigage is cut and laid across the width of the contact surface. The two half circle bearings are assembled and tightened to factory specifications, then disassembled to examine the plastigage width.
The width of the compressed plastigage indicates clearance between the parts. The range of Plastigage is determined by its color: green for 0.001-0.003-inch, red for 0.002-0.006, and blue for 0.004-0.009-inch clearances.
